Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

5% now. 8% next year.

You heard it first here. It is an yearly project, just like 8x50 series.

This FR2 discussion is the same as in electric cars. A lot of people push for electric cars, but the infrastructure isn't there. Why would Apple invest in it now? Maybe in 5 years or more. They are tired of paying not only for the chips, but also all that licensing on top.

When folks defend Qualcomm modem over Apple, I suspect they are trying to find a reason to believe their future at Qualcomm is safe (or they are just enthralled by the latest tech toys). My current phone is 4G, and works fine. The only reason my next phone will have 5G is because that's all there is - not because I need it. So obviously, if it's 5G without FR2, that won't matter at all to me. For those who think 5G is a must, or FR2 is a must, that's just silly. The ki-ler app has not yet arrived (when it does, I will of course be interested). Streaming movies or zoom meetings while mobile - no. Impractical, and possibly phone addiction.

You do not have option to pay less. Pay same or more but get poor quality communication with apple devices. It"s not just high throughput but connectivity in poor coverage also matter. You will have choice.

I am among the 90% that primarily use wifi. I really don't need high bandwidth when I'm away from wifi, so if apple modem doesn't have FR2, I don't care, and I'm certainly not willing to pay extra for that.

It's your experience for that 10% duration is what makes cell phone a mobile device and that is what counts.

@1qxj: Apple Modem will come out, but will have reduced feature set (like no FR2). All Apple has to do is to sell the Apple modem SKU at a $200 price point lower (or price Q modem SKU very high). Anyway the current ecosystem does not care about a multitude of these features. Since the past 5 years, all new features get built in but are removed from por and delivered to OEM. Think about it - these days, 90% of the population at any given time is on WiFi. The rest are using it mainly to stream (Spotify, youtube, nflx) or doom surf (fb, ig). This is not resulting in consumer frustration. No one currently has a fix for this...

5% is roughly 2500 head count
Assuming almost all comes from usa then San dieogo and Santa Clara office would be hit hard
