Thread regarding 3M layoffs

The result of all the layoffs in the past 2 years ...

3M stock near 52-week high. Sure, it is nowhere near its all-time high but Inge mortgaged the company to pay a high dividend and had billions in share repurchase to pump the share price up to ~$200 (adjusted for Solventum split). Roman, unfortunately, was not just bad, but he also inherited a fully mortgaged 3M and also had to deal with PFAS and earplug lawsuits. He didn't create the problems, yet had to layoff thousands (me included) and spinoff Solventum to pay off 3M's liabilities.

Brown has been given the opportunity to rebuild this company. 3M is NOT broken beyond repair as many on this board likes to believe. Mother mining is roaring back!

I didn't think TEBG is as dead as people think it is -- even without PFAS they still have a large and growing market for display materials and automotive electrification

This has been 3M's only strategy for ten years. Think of what our gross margins would be if we had zero employees. It's worth someone modeling it. You never know.

No formula. No strategy. 3M was unique in competitive landscape. External execs will find it hard to understand 3M. Basically the uniqueness is ki-led - hard to survive, leave alone roar.

Just look at TEBG. Anyone thinks the new group president is going to revive the TEBG business? Does she have so magical formula?

I have been in 3M for 20 years, I remember When I entered that I thought no disruptive products…. We are here in 2024 basically with the same products trying to be relevant in the market…

It’s impossible to developed innovation from today to tomorrow, the only solution is making acquisitions and We don’t have money to buy because liabilities

Anyone can explain me how to “roar” again??

I don’t see it roar. Many mistakes made on hiring inexperienced to executive positions - the decision makers! Not soaring and not roaring - sorry.
