Heard we had another conductor fatality today. Got hit by a metra train while walking his freight train. Heard it was another “new guy”. How many fatalities do they need before they see they need more training?

UP has a safety mechanism to protect exact scenarios like this. It’s called track breach. And the commuter routes in Chicago were exempt from this.
Walking a train and not having the dispatcher warn other trains warn about a train being stopped and a crew member Walking the stopped freight train on the adjacent main track.
Something wrong with that scene.
If management looks into this all they will do is try to charge the deceased w/ rules violations. They’ll try to get the accused to sign at the funeral home. When those managers are yelled at for making the company look bad then different managers will blame the other agreement employees. Managers here have 2 objectives, to never get physically uncomfortable doing any real work themselves and always blaming someone beneath them in rank. That is what they think is their job. That is how they win.
You’ve got to be kidding me. Management doesn’t care about another conductor dying! They won’t be “looking into things” any more than they have to for litigation. The company is making money and the only thing that matters to uprr is how much money the family of this poor soul will get.
It wasn’t a new guy 13 year employee on the main line
It was a remote control yard switching.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this employee, but I have to say this. The UP management needs to wake up! Both recent fatalities happened on the Chicago service unit. I'm guessing that there might be a problem there! I'd start looking into the management side of EVERY location and start making adjustments right now! How many more people have to lose their lives for probably the most ungrateful company on planet earth? It looks like the rules blitz a few weeks ago didn't do much good for the company. This tells me that the crackdown was focused on the wrong people at the company! RIP brother!
