I don't know who is feeding you this line of bull but so many companies are hiring! There are lots of opportunities for engineers outside BPX.
If you aren't hard up for a job then people are getting great offers I'm told and I'm seeing. I, myself, just interviewed for a position and they are offering way better terms.
Not bad at all. Companies are hiring left and right. I've worked for Bpx for many years and I've never had so many recruiters beating down my door.
Many of my friends are getting job offers leftvand right. Please know that you have options to leave this place if you would like to.

@4cox+1uk2nUno agreed, the motivation thus far hasn't been so. There hasn't been an industry cyclical event and we're seeing companies that are making cuts mainly based on their strategy, portfolio positioning and cost discipline. However to the OP's point, the sentiment towards the world economy has become bearish and crude has dropped lately so it could end up turning into a cyclical event...my 2 cents worth

A lot of other companies are hiring and they are hiring for better pay, company culture, and opportunities.
Its not even close.
