Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

One person vs the overseas team

at this point, it feels like me vs the overseas team. They run the show while I am their pawn to do tasks. I get worked assigned directly from them and not my manager. I work in silo due to the time zone difference. If I need to update them on my work, I have to schedule on their time zone and this forces me to work more than 8 hours a day. Even when the work is going smoothly, my boss forces me to get periodic checkups with the overseas team. The time zone difference and many vs one model is very tiring. Its just struggling to survive since I work alone while the overseas team has each other to bounce ideas if they get stuck. The hardest challenge is the gatekeeping of information. its hard to keep up with 15+ employees overseas when its just one person in the USA location that is not a manager.

It's scary that this is how Citi envisions the future for all of us. Reposted from @cwb+1uiKb8tM so more people can see it.

And we still blame Citi for culture? Re-read your complaint. Is it timezone, or is it they assign “superior” you work? When you treat your team with “vs” , silo like word will dictate and lands the org at place where it is today. Alike weather, “work” does not discriminate on border. If it is a team, might think about acting like one.

I can relate to this. One of the happiest days of my career was when I moved from a mostly overseas team to one in the good ole USA. If your experience is anything like mine, you are probably the linch-pin holding the whole thing together. If you think about it, could YOU support a process in a whole other time zone, without speaking the language well and the usual lack of documentation without major help from locals? So, don't sell yourself short and do your best to get out of there.

Take a nap in the afternoon when WFH so you can work at night.

Man, it is just your specific situation. It is not Citi - but in general you have the accept the fact that more and more roles will be moved offshore to reduce costs - the trend continues, until they replace workers like you with AI.
