Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Ft Worth mechanical

I see they have electrician spots in ft worth open, but I have heard only bad about up. Really don't want to go thru training only to get furloughed a few months later.

@4sjl You are a huge part of the problem due to your willing compliance and complacency. Your attitude enables greedy people to do bad and harmful things. You prove this by stating "it is cyclical", you readily accept what management does wrong so much, that you expect it. You give much more energy and attention to detail in criticizing your peers. Your personality is exactly what the southern dnc relied on in the 19&20th century. You are the blue collar cr--ker being sc--wed over by the politicians all bcuz they tell you that you are better than the minorities. You so pathetically crave something or someone to make you feel good that you allow criminals to get away with grave injustices as long as somewhere in there you get some affirmation. " Get off your phone and help your coworker" needs to change to "we need 3 fully staffed shifts w/ the goal being 100% of loco's that leave our facility are 100% ready to be leaders with zero defects"
Now ask yourself which one of those statements would make this a better railroad? Are you smart enough to see the difference? Are you strong enough to work on your flaws? Or are you so weak and defensive that you will continue to enable the problem makers by defending them by saying / thinking something like "that will never happen" "that's not realistic" etc. In a hearing or a query if someone like you spoke up placing blame on your peers vs someone like me voicing what is needed is 3 shifts and all power being defect free and leader capable whose idea do you think the CEO would beg a regulating committee to try first? My way would fix what is wrong for sure, your idea might yield a single digit improvement but which idea would the greedy CEO want to try?

3cuu+1ujSrbs7. I am not what has ruined this company. I come in and do my job, then go home. I have 20+ years on the railroad, been laid off recalled. Been on the bottom of the roster with crappie days off, been bumped many times. The railroad industry is always changing. Sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad. If you were educated, you would know that the railroad industry, not just UPRR has been doing this since it was created. None of this is new. It might be new to an uneducated person, but the railroad industry is a vicious circle. I am by no means a brown nose or su-k up to the management in anyway. I do my job. The job they pay me 41.07 an hour to do every day. I have FRA books that I have wrote down defects for the last 20 years. I write up the defects and if management wants to run it they can. I did my job. If a coworker needs help I will help them. You are what is wrong with the railroad. This is a job. They pay me to do and I do it. They pay me for 8 hours and that is what I give them.

You should take it. I'm always looking for someone new to write up and electricians are my favorite craft to target.

@3rfb you are such a huge part of UP’s problem. Profits have always driven companies to run but, long term profitability should never be sacrificed for increased short term gains. Accidents, injuries, and fatalities keep permanently hurting employees, communities, and customers yet you are critical of those you describe as “doom and gloom” ? No company will ever turn it self around and improve as long as cowardly yellow bellied brown nosers like you feign gratitude to the incompetent liars who ruin companies thru their banal hubris. You are truly worthless.

3biw+1ujSrbs7. As I said before. New employees need to look out for the doom and gloom employees. Instead of crying about how the company is cutting jobs, help each other out. If you see another worker falling behind, Instead of being on your phone playing around, go help them. Do I like them cutting jobs, NO, but right now profits is what runs the company. If I see someone struggling I help them out.

@2cna here, I fixed it for you ⤵️

“just do your job, that you will receive minimal if any training for and you’ll be just fine. Just do your job, and the jobs of at least 5 other workers that their old positions were eliminated to maximize profits, and you’ll be just fine. Just do your job which is whatever managers tell you to do even though those managers cant do it themselves, have never done it themselves, therefore the managers have no clue how many people or how much time it would take to safely and properly do the job and you’ll be just fine. Just do your job, without the proper materials, time, tools, and personal to really do the job thoroughly and safely to absolute completion, and you’ll be just fine.”

@2tyz & 2cna-You must work for a different employer. UP does not treat their employees that good.

I've been here for 20 years. As long as you do your job, you will be fine. Every business has its bad points, but all in all. It's a great place to work. Don't listen to these doom and gloom people.

Well if you only heard bad about up , why don't get hired for up and feel it as well. Stress and worry about if you have a job next week , get talked down to .

If you come to work for UP, do not finance anything. Nor would I move / relocate to work for UP.

Do NOT leave a GOOD job for a railroad job, not these days... If you currently don't have a good solid gig it's maybe not a bad idea to hire out and roll the dice. At the MINIMUM working for UP will make you appreciate other employers.
