Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Stay away! Far away!!! There is only sorrow and despair here.

Any young person considering working for Ford, note how poorly this company treats employees when they get older.

That will be YOU some day. You will be old one day.

Do you want to invest in community, buy a house, raise a family in a city just to be kicked to the curb when you reach 50 years old?

Stay away! Stay far away from Ford, the automotive industry and Michigan. Here there is only sorrow and despair.

"Survived 9 or 10 layoffs..."

I dunno my friend. After the 2 or 3rd one I'd have been seriously considering staying. Not worth the anxiety and BS. Not going to kiss a++ to stay if that's what it takes.

Survived 9 or 10 layoffs dating back to 90s. Each time my life got shortened a bit. :(

It all began with ford 2000 initiative. It’s bin going down hill since then but in the last 8-10 years accelerated a nose dive in to the cr-pper thanks to the people running the place, executives with their friends and family. . Ford used to be such an awesome place to work in the 80’s and 90’s. I was really proud to work there. two years ago I could not wait to get out. Such a shame what they did to the company and the way it is today. So sad. just mined blowing how they are destroying the company and yet get reworded for doing so with the big bonuses. where is the accountability?

Aren’t some of you tired of reading these pity party posts? I am and like some of you I used to feel this way until I entered the vigilante phase of my career. That’s right: the power is within you! You want to be on your knees to lick boots? Fine. But don’t pi-s and moan when something not fair is done to you. As much as it is the leader’s fault so too is it your own fault for capitulating too easy. Have fortitude, be facts driven, and when you have your shot to take em out, by all means do so. Manipulate those around them, be mischievous, because why lose to people lesser than you? They have no idea the monster they created in me, and I am getting better and better at humiliating them in public forum. Stop whining, man up!

Sadly, I have to agree. Ford and Ford Credit are no longer places to build a career and life. I really loved working for the company up until Smart (D-mb) Redesign (circa 2018) after Boston Consulting came in and helped destroy the culture and company. I was able to retire at the executive level December 2022 after almost 35 years. The lump sum change was a no brainer and so happy I got out when I did. Even at my level, the writing was on the wall the company no longer valued employees over 50 years of age. When you hear comments like "your runway is short", "you are highly thought of, but...", "its really competitive at the next level". As a senior leader, I developed all my people, regardless of race, s-x or age. Retirees are treated like X#@&. My best advice, always live below your means and unless you are pension eligible, consider another company. The right change will only take place with the right leadership.

As mentioned in the other post:

Of the 4 that I know that got inconsistent, 3 were in their late 40s early 50s and 1 in their 30s and were gsrs

Few years from retirement here, both my children ran as far as possible from the automotive industry after seeing how it destroys lives.

They treat retirees like total cr-p. Dedicate 30 years of your life, and I mean your life, to a company only to be treated like garbage when you leave.

At one time it was not bad... 33 years and now retired.

CEO golden parachutes and one time charges on the yearly financial reports...

Visteon, Jag/Rover/AM, Junkyards, chasing precious metal futures, train station, EVs...the list goes on.

BTW - Jim Hackett has a cameo on the Connor Stalions Sign Stealing Netfix special...

Guilty of selling out Michigan Football with a cheat that skipped town...Farley needs to skip town too..

I agree 100 percent. Don’t waste your career at Ford (or GM for that matter). Look elsewhere.

Look at what Ford does, not what Ford says.
