Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Employees on the Defensive

You know your culture is in trouble if before employees open their mouths in front of their bosses they ask themselves “will what I say bump me up the line for layoffs or cause the boss to call for night and weekend work?” And if the answer is “yes” to hold their tongues damage to the company be damned

It’s been that way at Intel for a long time

And of course it’s still possible to be a manager in such a company who CAN get employee trust and it’s still possible to be a trusting employee in such a culture consequences be damned

“Ask yourself the three things you must always ask yourself before you say anything.

  1. Does this need to be said
  2. “Does this need to be said by me?
  3. Does this need to be said by me now?”

Intel likes their employees to be bobbleheads and those who don't are considered not to be team players.

When you read these comments the one thing that always pops out is the issues with Intel culture are very much an American problem.

How to tell us you don't work at Intel without telling us you don't work at Intel.
The culture used to be one of open collaboration, which did include divergent opinions without retaliation from anyone.

This is no longer the case.

If you disagree with the wrong person or derail someone's pet project, you might as well kiss your a-s goodbye. It may not be immediate, but it will come within a year after a case has been built - which is never difficult since you will always violate some rule or reg.

Two repliers: I am heartened to hear that this is not a problem where you are working. It has not been the case throughout my whole Intel career. But where I am right now, shoot the messenger prevails and finishing the current project is WAAAAY more important that building up the team relationships

Or grow a pair and say it anyway or ask yourself if it's a stupid thing to say in the first place?
