Thread regarding VMware layoffs

New Stock Bonus

I recently had a one on one with my manager and expressed some concerns, let him know I was going to start looking for employment elsewhere. My manager then all, but promised me that I would be getting an additional stock bonus soon almost equivalent to the amount of RSU’s I was granted when I stayed on. Does anyone have any insight here? Can management grant us that many additional RSU’s? Or this some tactic to get us to stay aboard longer with no bonus/additional stock coming? For context I’m a CPM in the states

The amount will depend of what the board approves

There is no board, only Hock

Yes (manager here) we do have a pool of shares to distribute between eligible employees in March. The amount will depend of what the board approves to be distributed, flow down in each geo / org, performance vs the group etc.

VMW will be down to 7k employees. Maximum efficiency.

RSU='golden shackles' when stock price is rising.
BC will continue to get rid of VMW employees until the right EBITDA margins are achieved. 70% gross margins and 50% operational margins. With expected loss of unimportant customers this will be achieved in 2 years from date of acquisition.

When do BC folks get notified of what RSUs they will get in FY25? I have heard March, if that’s correct, I assume first vest will be June and 3 months thereafter? Thanks

Boo hoo, complaining about RSUs, not a good look.

RSUs are not a four year gamble.

They are a 4-year gamble because you are always under risk of being laid off, and not realizing the majority of the equity you were promised to make you stay.

If you are looking to leave, an RSU grant should NOT make you stay (because they could lay you off after some short amount of time, after you have fulfilled your usefulness to stay above the line of doom).

If you are not looking to leave and come in just to get paid, then an RSU grant is not a bad thing.

RSUs are not a four year gamble. We get RSUs every quarter. Of course, that's devilishly clever isn't it? I hate this place but I think every three months "I can do another three months". And here we are, almost a year in. I hate this place.

“… My manager then all, but promised me”

vs

“…My manager then promised me”

Gladly accept and still look somewhere else. It’s a 4 year gamble and you are the main player. It’s your choice and your responsibility.

You got to start thinking on behalf of your own interests, not someone elses.

RSUs are a future promise that takes 4 years to fulfil.
Very Wimpy vibes of "I will gladly pay next Tuesday for a hamburger today".
Not a strong hand on the part of the manager.

I mean, technically your manager isn’t wrong, it depends when you expect more stock. If you’re around in March you will get new stock it’s as simple as that.

OP are you for real? Why would they give RSU and bonus if they want to get rid of more people? They are just figuring out ways to get rid of people without paying severance. No bonus and no RSU. Thanks for sticking around and doing the work of all your friends who were fired. You will be fired too. Sooon. Once all the remaining work is done.

You have a manager? Ask the manager to check if she is still getting paid.

Think about the number of times Broadcom has been truthful. This is a promise and stock that you may never be able to collect.

Yes. The 80/20 Rule tells us you have a bright future as 80% on this board are lazy bioches

It's the Hunger Games. You are sticking with your program, and progressing. Congratulations! I think it's fair to ask your Manager for a time-frame on when those RSUs will be issued to you. It's clear you're a good employee and as it's every man/woman for themselves. Change provides opportunity for people like you

Most of the replies in this channel are by ex employees who can’t move forward until the company dies. They don’t know how it works.

Yes, your manager and higher mgmt were already prepared for such situations. If you are a good and they don’t want to lose you, yes, it happened to me. Two engineers left in our team and my manager quickly preempted any more bleeding with RSU bonus. I was promoted few months later.

It’s called your next grant, happens in March. Pretty much everyone employed will get it.
