Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Should I volunteer

I discussed with my manager, and I'm not currently on the list. However, I'm considering volunteering since I find the package hard to resist (I have 10+ years of experience in Q). Is it too late to volunteer now that the list is almost finalized? If they do add me to the list and I secure a new job in the next few weeks, would I still need to wait until my last day to receive the package?

I suggest you update your resume today while the work you do is still fresh in your mind; then update your Linkedin profile to "Open to Work" "for recruiters only" to review. If you start interviewing now, you will likely find something soon. Otherwise, you can wait to see if you are on the layoff list with a severance package based on the time you have been employed at the Q.

Smart, great move - may be 10 year x 4 weeks + 3 months, with that you and friends would start another "RFMD" off ADI, Qualcomm is a friendly employer, lots people visit In-and-Out from building-N.

Same boat, same question same situation.
Wanna get the VSP package and get my evenings and weekends back and live life. Time is running short with fewer years remaining to live under the sun. Don't want to die cooped up behind a monitor desk job doing 60 hours a week in fear trying to avoid the layoffs swords every year and slogging on 3 chips yearly with reduced workforces leaving more work for leftover folks.

OP is lying. No manager can communicate unless she/he wants to get into HR issues.

It depends. I know someone in NJ who was put on the list last October one day before the announcement. Last time laid-off employees need to wait for three months before taking the severance. It’s a bit risky to volunteer in my opinion

It is too late. Lists have been finalized quite some time ago. That said, what harm does it make? Pretty sure there will be further cuts next year and you get to be ahead of the list if you throw your hat now. Only issue is if job market deteriorates further.
