After being laid off I just accepted a new job but it’s in office. I haven’t worked in office in years and am feeling upset about leaving my pets and family. I’ve felt so blessed to get to spend so much time with them during the day and now that I’ll be in office that time will be gone. Can anyone offer some encouraging words? I am just feeling so low right now

People, and pets, are having to adjust and each is dealing with in their own ways. For some it has been a smooth transition and they are currently enjoying severance pay plus pay from their new jobs. Others are still very angry and cannot move forward; these are the people that need our support. Please be kind to each other.
I empathize with you, my pet got so stressed when I went back to an office it got sick and it's older so I'm afraid will die sooner. Yes, having a remote role was fantastic and we miss it dearly - my life and my relationship with my pet will never be the same - it's sad.
you are spoiled
Be glad you left now you can expand your horizons good luck you sound like a caring person
So often our tendency is to look at what we lose (home, pet time, Nielsen) when it’s just as possible to look at what you gain..new role, away from a company that will not improve in your career and (I assume) financial security.
Instead of ‘where did it go wrong?’, think ‘what if it all went really well?’
“Cultivate your hate…”
The OP was heartfelt, honest, and quite restrained…no sense of hatred at all…
Inappropriate to project or attribute vitriol (your own?) when it was neither stated or implied…
This new gig might be the best job yet. At the very least I hope you get to learn new skills so you can find a remote job in the future. I’m so happy you found a new job. Congrats! It took me over a yr of searching (I started before I was cut, I knew it was coming) to land a gig. No one else in my former department has found a job who was laid off, it is bleak out there. You deserve a hearty congrats! One less person stuck looking helps everyone still looking, less competition for resume attention! This new job is just a way for you to keep affording to take care of your loved ones and pets. You’re doing right by them and you. I know this is so hard, be nice to yourself and just take it day by day. May the future lead you to another remote job.
Thank you…you’re right and I apologize if my post seems ungrateful. I loved my job at Nielsen so it has been hard to let it go. Thank you for your words…you are absolutely right in everything you said. I wish the best for everyone going through this right now.
The first and most important thing is this: there are hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of people that would give their right eye to be in your position. They can't find a job to save their lives, right now. For some it has been a year or more....I've seen people on LinkedIn talking about foreclosure and repossession because they can't afford to live - their unemployment has run out.
If you look at the big picture, you are blessed right now. I know it's hard, but it's totally manageable. Keep looking for remote work. Remember; your current job may just be a means to an end. You don't have to work here forever, but you do HAVE to pay your bills. Try to take comfort in this silver lining : )
