Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Behavioral health layoff coming?

Recent town hall discussed decreasing teams and “re aligning”. Sure sounds like layoffs are coming in this area.

Behavioral health and social work is such a joke now. They just mashed BHCM and SW together into a Frankenstein role. How and why it took over a month to create this new dual role is stupefying. More work for both BHCM and SW. Performance metrics were shared but how large your caseload was not. They laid off SWMs and are bringing some back to help in other regions. They have SWs getting licensed in other states to help with coverage. Yet they have no clue how systems work in the other states. Sure Arkansas is going to be like New York. What this tells me is that, as usual, there is NO respect for SW or BH. Its a last thought and you get bargain basement plans. Then you’re expected to be grateful you still have a job. Im sorry, you want me to be grateful like Im some mo--nic beggar off the street who will do the work of 2-3 people. SW and BH leadership is weak and toothless. They are fine being treated like refuse and in turn treat us like refuse.

In previous BH layoffs, top performers were included in the mix. So don't assume you are safe. NO ONE IS SAFE.

How exactly is that helping patients? Don't they have provide BH parity ? Remember when Kaiser was slammed for their poor BH access!

Behavioral health was decreased in July when Landmark laid off a lot of BH CM’s and BH APP’s. Plus social workers at Landmark are now doing SW and BH. But I’m speculating that they will lay off more in October.

Behavioral, update your resumes. This doesn't look promising.

Yeah, there is a job posting that was added a few days ago for a Chief Medical Officer for "Optum Behavioral and Optum Health Solutions" and they want it to be a doctor who is well versed in both medical and behavioral diagnoses so it looks like they are already trying to figure out physician leadership for this realignment.

I think the town hall had a hidden message. The message being about her litigating everything. A lot of investigations going on and some asking for assistance from employees to give info. That town hall was like one big waste of time, made no sense.

Yes, it looks like in October. Optum Health and Optum Behavioral Health are aligning to be more cohesive when it comes to treating members who have both a medical and a behavioral health diagnosis. Therefore having two structures of the company does not make sense. From what the Townhall said, it sounds like they will be looking at current talent and realigning them in the appropriate positions and teams that have too many individuals will be realigned to other teams to backfill positions. I am assuming they will get rid of duplicate positions between the two revenue streams and also under performing individuals.
