We all have families to feed, expenses to pay, and in need of health insurance. Who else is holding on until the ship sinks because of the salary and health insurance?
Let’s admit it: Pat’s “strategy” is going to sink us!

The sh.. is going down in the next 6 months. It’s too late. Just hang on tight.
I hear what you're saying. I don't like the term "milk the job". I love my job. I'm a high performer and in great standing with multiple levels of management above me. I work hard to stay ahead of schedule for the projects I work on. Am I untouchable? No, nobody is. I am non-exempt so I'm not at a top-tier pay grade even though I am at the top of my own pay grade schedule. I definitely have my eye on the job market but I'm not looking to take a voluntary $40-50K pay cut for similar work elsewhere unless I'm forced to. We do have an emergency fund in place since I've been around long enough to see what happens in this industry. I just hope to not have to use it.
It could go down much faster than you think. You should be actively trying to find your next job. You probably won’t have years to milk this job. If you cost too much intel knows this too and you might be gone in the next wave.
I'm nine years away from my when I plan to retire. I'm not looking to start over somewhere this late in my career unless I have to. Health coverage is definitely important, but I've looked around at comparable jobs in the same or adjacent industries and they just don't pay as well as my compensation at Intel. Not even close, actually. After 20+ years in this place, a desirable income (for me) is attainable. We've got financial goals we're close to hitting so I'm just going to ride it out until they tell me to leave vs taking a package and more than likely taking a guaranteed pay cut somewhere else. I'll volunteer to box up all the keyboards and monitors for the fire sale, if that's what it takes. It's a means to an end.
In truth, health insurance is the reason many of us are holding on to out jobs and unable to retire. Health costs have soared - now every question you ask your doctor will be billed separately.
If our BU gets ISPd, it our fault ! ELTs are lost in Santa La La Clara !
Exactly, families to feed, expenses to pay, health insurance. No guarantee we can get a better offer elsewhere within a few months at this time. But many of us will be let go anyway before end of November. Good luck.
