Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

My only issue is medical coverage

If severance came with medical coverage for at least six months, I'd be more than happy to volunteer to be cut. It's not even that I don't like working at Dell anymore, I just wouldn't mind giving something new a chance. Instead, as somebody with a chronic disease, I'm petrified of finding out that I'm affected. Just one thing shouldn't make so much difference, but it does.

We switched away from Dell benefits years ago because the benefits were terrible compared to other options. If you do get "chosen", they'll read you a 2 paragraph script followed by a 10 minute speech about Cobra. They seem to take it really seriously.

Research cobra costs for your state. Each can be different. Also coverage can be 18 months or 36 months depending on your circumstances. Depending on your age this could bridge the gap. Another alternative is gong on the open exchange. I've seen plans go for between 589$usd and 1100$usd with 750 seemly the average in my state. Try your best to navigate the waters. You are not alone!

I hear you. But someone in that condition should not let it all ride on a company like Dell.
I would be more diligent in improving my situation.
It's not like Dell has good benefits for that matter.

Cobra continuation is ~$850 per month
