Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM redeveloping like he-l on Warren tech center

Looks like it is going to be new parking lots WAY out in BFE.

The shuttle busses are going to be busier than he-l.

With 5 days coming next year, better Dress warm in the winter.

So glad I'm done with GM.

As far as my perspective goes, they do system management well. The best of the best in my opinion. To this date, everyone else doesn't compare.

But, as for the culture, I am so happy to end a two decade stint with them. Blessed even.

Companies focus on keeping costs low and maximizing profits.

Low cost employees help to achieve those goals.

No…more like learning and witnessing how some people were raised…forcing other GM employees to file OSHA health violations…

GM loves paying those fines and then creating new ridiculous mandatory training videos that employees have to watch.

“How different cultures view and perceive hygiene in the bathroom.”

Is messing up the bathrooms some kind of protest?

The SLT won't care.

Greedflation by the food vendors.

Ha….

MTB will probably tell us to “Assume Goodness” and wipe our behinds either with leaves or our end of year CAPS….

Like the stock market, the prices in the on campus food vendors will probably be shooting through the roof and experience another downsizing in quality and quantity…..

I can imagine the food/coffee lines extending for miles off campus….

I was a new hire into a supplier in 2008. Young enough to be cheap labor that was spared but still remember the conditions of the Great Recession. Hopefully folks are ready for the next real recession and are deleveraging of consumer debt. This economy has been juiced by QE, stimulus, debt and other programs from the Fed for a while. When that spigot dries it’ll be a hard fall.

I believe the “Savage Beast” mentality will be returning to GM bathrooms.

If people’s bad hygiene came to work last time when we returned to office 3 days a week, it is probably going to be 100% worse when we return to office 5 days a week.

Hope I am wrong, but, if I am not, good luck finding toilet paper.

"Are you predicting another January X"

What an irresponsible thing to say.

No. I'm asserting that the agencies & media outlets that have been reporting fake numbers for the past 3.75 years will magically start to admit that everything is FUBAR.
They are holding things up for the current power structure. Once they start revealing the truth about the real unemployment numbers, commercial & residential real estate, corporate and personal credit defaults, the dollar losing value fast because of the national debt, the BRICS nations de-dollarizing, the unsustainable government spending while telling people "there's no money left", the bottom will fall. That's not even considering that Germany is in a recession, Japan and China's economies already have fallen and the EU isn't buying our exports. Also factor in global wars. People aren't being told about ANY OF THIS. It's K vs T. A huge farce.

Consumer confidence will tank but it will not matter. People are in debt well beyond their means. 75% now report that that they can't afford to pay their bills. Do you really think people don't know why? Do you expect them to buy 100k cars to keep you employed when they can't afford groceries and their credit cards are above 22% interest? While they are already fearing layoffs? While they put their kids' back-to-school on buy-now-pay-later loans? What about Christmas? F

Are you predicting another January 6?

During the last recession, I put out a Craigsl!st ad for a handyman for my real estate acquisitions. $12 an hour. Within one hour, I had over 100 resumes in my inbox.
Some of these guys used to work at GM. I'm being real here. I hope you people have extra skill-sets. I imagine some of you were lucky and skated through. Others are too young to remember the great recession. In Michigan, it was much worse than in other states.

The people with (2) car payments and a big house might seem like they are "well off" to their neighbors and family but using the 2007-2009 as a reference, they are going to have to start praying for divine intervention soon. G0d help you if you have financed the big toys (RV, boat, etc.). The fire-sales are coming people.

The people complaining are seriously not strong enough to endure what follows November 5. "OMG 5 days in office!" LMA0 okay

Her personal helicopter lands on the roof, so no shuttle needed.

As long as the bathrooms are kept REALLY clean, it should be bearable.

If you think that RTO/5 is your biggest issue, have no fear!
The auto supply chain is already doing layoffs. This indicates weak ordering from the big 3. Weak ordering indicates lower sales projections.
Oil demand growth is weakening and Opec is cutting supply.
Mass layoffs in big corporations. 17,000 at Boeing just announced. We have seen other really big announcements last week. Amazon, Dell and others.

One day soon, you might envy people at GM taking the shuttle bus in the 10 degree Michigan weather. Not sure what kind of retail jobs are available these days, how many hours you can work and how much you get paid. Because if suppliers are firing, there's no room for you. Are you old enough to retire? Do you have enough saved? Yeah, I didn't think so.

PS The new parking lot is said to be for electric vehicles. An investment they can tout in the press. It's not about you. It's about desperation due to their failed strategy. It's also right next to an existing parking structure. Not that far at all to walk.

GM office workers having to drive into the office five days a week AND take shuttle buses from the parking lot? So wonderful!
MB won’t have to take a shuttle bus though.
