Is it true that one has to work during severance period? If one is eligible for 3 months of severance, they will be asked to work during that period to get the severance. So, it’s not really a severance but just an advance notice?

In the US severance is standard payroll.
Severance begins after your final day. For some you get an immediate layoff the day you have your HR meeting, others are asked in their HR meetings to stay on for X amount of weeks to train your replacement(s), then you have a last day and severance begins. You can say no to training (well, I had that option) and accept immediate severance if you prefer.
I was told I was being let go and told my future end date IF I agreed to train my replacement. I had no other job yet so I agreed. I had about six weeks of regular Nielsen everything while I trained my replacement. Then I had my last day with my severance paperwork email to me. i signed that, emailed it back, and had normal payroll for a month (I got 4 weeks severance).
Speaking of severance pay, how is it delivered? Lump sum, or the same as paychecks? Does severance pay also include benefits for the full period? Any details we should know about?
There is no such thing as a ‘severance period.’ It is severance PAY, based on length of tenure. And as of now, severance pay equates to one week’s pay for each year of employment.
‘3 months of severance’? That would require approximately 12 years of employment.
If youre asking about severance amount for 3 months of employment— ZERO.
No. That is not severance.
