Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Time to clean up house!

If Amazon is going to get rid of people, then get rid of the right ones who don’t do a damn thing all day. They’re the same people who complain about the work yet spend half the day on smoke breaks, messing around, and not pulling their weight. Meanwhile, the rest of us are busting our as--s. If Amazon wants to be more profitable, start by cutting the dead weight.

How about keeping those who actually show up and get the job done? There would be huge savings if Amazon got rid of the useless slackers.

I WFH in AWS and do almost nothing, all day every day. Jassy can eat my sn---h, it’s been free money now for 3+ years. I don’t GAF and neither should you. Take all you can while you can.

@1mjm+1uVYfrSf: it's called a camera and screen recorder. Unfortunately, both aren't always perfect, especially if you work on a non-work machine and hide block the camera. Regardless, there are always other options that are less intrusive.

I'm retired and have met many 'remote workers' on the chairlift ... during weekday working hours. Or out on the river or the bike trails. At some point there will be an AI solution to monitor employees and figure out if they're gaming the system or actually working, whether in-office or remote (according to folks I keep in touch with)

Employees have already taken a 30% pay cut (i.e. no new RSU grants, no raises, AND stagnant stock price over the last 4 or so years.)

I will say it again:
Employees who think working from home is so important should be willing to take a 30% pay cut.

Yes fire the bad managers and the bad non-managers. No one gets a free pass.

Everyone is quick to point fingers but this is across the whole company. Doesn’t matter what position they hold. If someone can’t do or handle their job, they need to go. Goodbye

The cleanup actually needs to start at the top... Investors haven't been getting a good 3-year return versus Walmart, Microsoft. Employee morale is at an all-time low too. Bezos is practically retired.

But you can use a mouse mover anywhere though - even in the office. Why not measure by work output? By not spending two hours commuting to/from work, that lost time can be spent working at home, and arguably producing more work output. Those who abuse the privilege should be sacked. You might be overestimating the amount of slackers.

Using a fake mouse mover, WFH have no proof they are sending more hours working than RTO folks. Most WFH think they are sneaky using a mouse mover tap dancing on their table while away goofing off all day. We have a WFH person in our Amazon group and everyone strongly agrees the person isn’t even at their home during their work hours. Any time the person calls coworkers people say they can hear a lot of background noise knowing the person is not at home working.

Consider the hours the WFH crew spend v.s. the RTO crew.

If you’re productive at work, that should be enough to have job security. Wish that’s how it worked. I know a handful of coworkers who don’t do sh-t all day. If they get fired, you won’t even notice they’re gone.

Preach! Couldn’t agree more!

If Amazon put in the slightest effort to look into their employee productivity and layoffs from the bottom up, I’m sure at least half of the WFH people would be on that list.

So true, especially the Amazon WFH types. These people leave their homes most days to go shopping or Starbucks runs. Or they have a second jobs at same time they are on the clock at Amazon. These people think they are fooling their coworkers who already have returned to the office by joining Teams meeting from their cellphones while at Starbucks. These WFH slackers aren’t fooling anyone and Amazon should cut them first.
