The Huron County Board of Commissioners voted to lay off seven part-time employees on Tuesday morning, a move that had been delayed for a month following an outcry from county employees and department heads.
The layoffs take effect at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, and affect almost all county departments, with Huron Central Dispatch and the Huron County Sheriff’s Office exempt from cuts.
The board voted 6-1, with District 5 Commissioner Donald Musser voting no, to cut seven part-time or casual county employees from the maintenance and building/zoning departments as well as the probate court, public guardian, district court and register of deeds offices.
