In the long run, you will be happier without Intel. Forcibly having the blue kool-aid removed from your diet might be a shock at first, but when you work your first 40 hour week at a new company instead of a 60 hour week it will start to click. When someone tells you “great job” and you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop… it won’t. You’re gonna be okay, and in a lot of cases you’ll probably do better in the long run than those that got the privilege to stay at an abusive underperforming corp

I just got laid off, and despite you -personally- warning me, I got the exact same package as the VSP. Now what're you gonna do?
It is messed up. But it is business. It will make Intel look bad for a news cycle and then everyone will forget and move on
Well, when I left Ann said it would be the same as well as the Q&A. But that definitely could have changed.
Seeing people let go with no package would be messed up when executives secured theirs.
They should prepare to receive nothing. All funding was used up on the VSPs

No it’s not. They literally changed the wording weeks in their FAQ. It’s now saying some vague statement and that it WON’t be the same as VPM. Go look for yourself. They can’t afford the 15k of packages to give out a very small few will get something but vast majority of that 15k will get absolutely nothing. Why are people still thinking it’s the same? The literally told us it won’t be the same

In my 40+ years working in the electronics industry (as a design engineer) my first real job out of school lasted 14 years. Thats a long time to stay at one place, but I moved around some within the groups, built a reputation for getting things done, and felt pretty good until the last year. A new manager that nobody liked. In that one year I had two conversations with him even though he sat 50' from me. "Hi I'm your new boss" and "Hi you have been RIF'ed" He was nice enough to give me back computer privileges so I could download my personal stuff. Never again did I keep anything personal on a work computer, and only kept less than a box of personal stuff at my desk. I was cordial, even though I knew he had a say in who stayed and who was leaving. Years later, at another job, he came in wanting to partner with the current company and it was awkward because I had a say in if that deal should go through. So never burn a bridge, you may have to cross it again. I've worked at places in my career where the environment wasn't toxic but it wasn't great, and to where the place felt like a second home with good relationships. Its going to change, depending on if a big company or a small one, I've been at both. But you make the best of it, learn quickly who you can trust and work with, when to suggest, when to let the wookie win (star wars reference for those who dont know....Han told Luke when they were playing a game, you sometimes let the Wookie win). But nearly in all cases, when I've been laid off (4 times, 7 companies thru acquisitions and quit only once) the next job was better. Better pay, better people, more interesting work. Current job I came in with fairly low expectations but it appeared it might be fun work, but may never do design work again. Within 4 months, I get put on the R&D team, where my years of experience were recognized and rewarded. I interviewed on a Thursday, job offer on Friday and started soon after. So if you feel like you are stuck...but comfortable, just look around. Keep looking. It might take a few weeks or months, but there is somebody looking for what you can bring to the table. Am I proud of what I have done over the years? Of course. Some things nobody will ever know about what I did, others are in the consumer market and we all know of them. And it used to be something that you could be proud of, working at a place like Intel, AMD, Micron, etc. And you can still be proud. Tell the grandkids you had a hand in building something useful and what current technology is based on. But move on, be proud, and above all, be passionate about the work you do. If you are not, and just trying to coast by, then you deserve what you get.
It’s not fake news. It’s been discussed multiple times on this board. Simply we just don’t have enough money. Intel is broke. This is also why some my VSPs were denied. We can’t afford to pay all those packages. ISP is free. It’s just getting fired. Costs Intel zero dollars. Notice also how many times HR secretary reworded and rephrased that FAQ responses to this the ISP question. They are not legally obligated to give ISP one red cent. And surprise!! They won’t. If you are just learning this well sorry?? You should have be paying attention more and asking them more questions. Good luck

I took the money and ran. Took about 2 weeks to find another job. I know some of that was just d-mb luck.
Don’t limit yourself to the semiconductor industry. Best advice I can give to those that will soon get a email and a calendar invite. Your skills translate. In both manufacturing and engineering. My second piece of advice is take full advantage of the job coach benefits. Have them write your resume. Start becoming active on LinkedIn. Actually post stuff. Comment. Join groups based around the skills and knowledge/experience you have.
Better pay, benefits, and a work agreement that caps my hours at 50. 60-70 was my average, over 7 days a week.
But I miss it already. Miss being around brilliant people. Miss having processes and systems in place that at smaller companies are done manually with crazy old complicated spreadsheets or equipment held together with paper clips and bubble gum.
But…sh---y bonuses, losing 60% on the company stock, promotions withheld, paycuts to both base pay/401k reductions, and constant org changes just became too much. I didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel and the new breed of ‘pound your fist’ managers are horrible at recognizing and appreciating contributions.
If you are an active employee , and you manage people and don’t know how to use the recognition system, you are in the wrong role. On the other side, if you have never given your manager a recognition, don’t be surprised when they become disillusioned. And that always rolls back down.
Never minded working hard. Working long hours. Because I felt useful and appreciated. Felt I was part of a team. Something bigger than just me. Until I didn’t.
I’ll always bleed Intel blue. Always have love for Intel and who knows? In 5 years once the war is won (because I truly believe Intel will weather this storm and come out stronger), even if that takes the form of several separate companies. I’m just too tired and worn down to hike the mountain when there’s a perfectly good road and auto.

One thing is for sure. For those who survive this layoff - you can never ever trust your manager and their word ever again.

Getting out of that toxic cesspool will be the best thing that has happened to you. Seek a therapist for PTSD and go on to live a happy fulfilling life.
