Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Lack of discussion around compensation issues in the meeting

If you think you're being underpaid, maybe go somewhere where you will be paid what you think you are worth. Looking for a new job is probably a better use of your time and energy than spamming an all company call with futile requests for updates on compensation.

the brilliance of the us healthcare system is that work provides health insurance and it’s too expensive for most people to pay out of pocket. so a lot of us will stay for the health insurance even though we don’t want to. you might even say we’re doing the work involuntarily

the suggestions of quitting or even starting your own company as easy alternatives are so out of touch that they don’t really merit response or engagement. it isn’t true that the layoffs were entirely dead weight, either. 2u’s services have declined dramatically since the layoffs started, and it’s just going to go downhill unless employees are given a reason to stay (and frankly, suggesting otherwise speaks volumes about op’s understanding of the company,,,,maybe they thought paul would still be around? lolol)

this company is dead, the only question is whether the remaining employees are going to lay down and take it or follow executive leadership and make a dime on the way out

Some folk out here need a reality check. It’s evident from the past layoffs that there were tons of people not carrying their weight as the core business still continues as if they were never there. If you want pay increases and promotion opportunities be more valuable. There are team members out there getting them. Also I would argue that depsite the fair living wage comment from the one poster, most employees here get paid comparatively well compared to the world at large, especially if they really reflected on what they do. Sounds like they have a spending problem. If you want a fair living wage, you are not overly ambitious in the first place. Also nothing stopping anyone here from starting their own business and in theory having an unlimited wage. There are options out there rather than whinging.

if you're tired of the pillaging LEAVE. If youre tired of being treated like a peasant (you should really think about how offensive using this language is to people who actually live in servitude) then LEAVE. you're wasting so much of your life working for a place that according to many, seems to hate its employees. it's such a beta move to beg for scraps from a company that you feels undervalues you.

yes peasants, roll over and play dead while your corporate overlords pillage your salaries and health care. also voluntary severance doesn't exist and paul is a genius. like the previous poster said, Chill Out

Honestly you are already getting a fair living wage. Go check out salaries for the job you are currently doing and see what other companies are paying and you will rapidly see that it is lower. If you think that a company that is emerging from Chapter 11 is going to now give everyone a raise, you are delusional. The company wants and needs to cut cost. You are more likely get let go, than get a raise. So, like the previously poster stated, Chill out.

Some of you all need to chill. Compensation is obviously important, but do you really think the new private equity owners and board's first course of action is to give the employee base a substantial pay raise anytime soon. In case you need to think about it, the answer to that question is no. One could argue that the company is paying fair living wages across the entire company. If there are personal expenses that interfere with how you see this being a fair living wage, that is kind of on you at that point. Statistics dont lie.

This post is not intended to say anyone needs to work more or less harder or to seek other employment, but when the same 7-10 people ask these questions at every single company call its clear that it is not a productive way of handling this topic.

It's not unreasonable for people to want a fair living wage at their current place of employment. The mentality of "just go get a different job" is why so many corporations get away with exploiting their employees. People shouldn't have to hop from job to job to job just to get a salary that allows them to pay their bills and prepare for the future.
