With the q3 checkins “early” and the sales celebrations stopped until number. It’s clear that we are for sure having layoffs. Question is.. what divisions? That’s what I want to know.

Hearing rumblings within digital product teams (corporate) that it will come early next week
Does anyone know any concrete timing and why they think that? Is it stores impact or home office?
Not sure where the poster that claimed “today they have started” got their info from, but nothing happened, from what I can tell. An HR source told me it would be next week, probably Monday. I trust them. They have been right every time they have divulged things to me. Relax for a week.
Crickets here at corporate. Business as usual.
Where did the layoffs happen? i havent heard anything
Today they have started......Good luck to all!
My advice? Update your resume and pro-actively manage your career!
Why wait for the inevitable? It's only a matter of time before YOUR name is on the "list".
Everyone "left standing" (post November lay-offs) will breathe a "sigh of relief" - happy to still have a job! However, I seriously doubt there is a Staples employee who feels there is any semblance of "job security".
Living in fear of losing your job - and your income - is no way to live!
Is the Microsoft expiring on 11/8 really related? Because I got that message and IS said it was normal and an easy fix.
Got me worried here…
Going to be tough when Trump wins and then people at corporate get laid off. It will add insult to injury.
What do you expect when your strategy to increase store foot traffic is to allow Amazon returns. I can’t recall the last time I went to Staples for any other reason
Yes but I also hear the culture within the digital product team is pretty bad and never sure what they work on either
I hear digital product teams are going to be impacted. Not surprising in the least.
This company can’t seem to do anything right. Back in the spring, when they were eliminating retail positions, a PowerPoint outlining it was leaked on Reddit before it was announced to those being impacted. Not sure if having your Office subscription expiring is another sc--w up, or not, but wouldn’t put it past them. The SLT is amateur hour to the max.
which departments have been hit with the Microsoft messege?
Yes, the seal of death is your Microsoft office subscription ending on 11/8. It is nice of the company to give you a 2 weeks notice in that way so you know it is coming ahead of time. I guess I am safe since I have not received that message. Phew.
I heard a rumor that ~300+ positions are being impacted 1st week of November - way to have a thanksgiving holiday jerks
How many people are seeing the note that their Microsoft office subscription ends on 11/8?!?!
Corporate as been talking about 250 stores for like 6 months i wonder if the hammer drops
We found out recently the Pittsfield, MA store is closing. Sad. One of early opened stores. Hear from some of the corporate people involved (“don’t tell anyone I told you this”) that the 200 to 250 closing by fiscal year end is conservative and will probably be closer to 300.
Keep hearing that they are closing 200-250 stores by years end so im sure that will also be in first week of nov! This has been said by many different corporate employees
Last year NDAs were signed by all of leaderships before layoffs. Have you heard of this happening again?
For the one saying they wouldnt anniversary layoffs... last 3 years they have had layoffs the first week of november... maybe you just arent in the department some of us are in.
Where would they even cut? Every vertical is trimmed thin as is.
I know there is talk about it happening in November on here, but are we sure it isn't because that's what happened last year? It strikes me as surprising that they would anniversary last year's layoffs with another on the same timeline. I've been here for layoffs that were done in February, June, and November. It doesn't seem like it ever happened at the same time of year consistently.
heard there is one coming 1st week of Nov ;(
Unfortunately, a lot of very talented GM’s have left the Retail side of the business lately and all have landed in a better place. Why did they leave? Less labor hours in store have made for more work with less people. Combine that with little support from upper management on reducing workload or expectations and the stress is unbelievable. Afraid we are in the “shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic” phase of the business. The ship will sink soon.
if we are to compete with Amazon and move beyond coffee cups being sold - we need more talent to join us and not layoffs ;(
We are creeping close to Nov. no doubt something is coming soon.
layoff for corporate? who is even left to do that anyway, they layed off >70% of the folks the past year and this year.
Nobody comes here caring about the Staples retail stores. Clearly a dying industry. Just assume your store will close and move on.
Several DM’s have quit or been fired recently, same with GM’s. CA Price Checker position eliminated. Less labor hours given to stores equating to mass burnout to those working. Go in any store and see what the vibe feels like - stress is making customer satisfaction in the toilet. The “try this, try that” mentality of Corporate shows that they are panicking instead of planning. BTS season was disappointing, sales-wise. Mass layoffs and store closings are on the horizon - get your resume ready.
What kind of movement in retail has happened?
I agree that a layoff is certainly on the horizon but Q3 check ins are not exactly “early” remember q1 was due May 31 similar to previous year. Talent decisions for November have surely been made by this point anyways.
In another note check out the recent posts over at the r/Staples over on Reddit. Lot of movement there this week at the retail level. Likely some indications that it’s retail that could be most affected this time round.
