Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

The medium is the message

My market had the luxury of welcoming Tony Spring to the market a couple weeks ago. His visit was more disheartening than it was inspirational. We pulled in managers from all over the District to set delayed projects and “elevate” the store for 2 weeks bc we’ve been running on less staffing the entire year (and we are an F50 door).

The day of the visit… I really wanted to feel the energy from the new CEO, and get a sense of him on actions and not words. When Tony came by…I got no smile, no handshake, no “nice to meet you.” It was completely awkward bc I was pulled into a conversation with him by the store manager! To not have a genuine interaction with the CEO has only caused my red flags to go up!! Why am I here if, as a CEO, you can’t even say hello!?! Am I gonna bend over backward for you and be inspired to be here and drive business?! SAYS A LOT!!! BYE!!

The EGO that is “Federated” needs to WAKE UP and listen to your surroundings if you want this Titanic to stay afloat!!! What happened to “leading by example” or being a genuine human being and treating people with respect, grace, and gratitude!! Positive change starts with the culture and it’s the worst it’s ever been because they only care about themselves!

"Your store probably didn't look like Bloomingdales, so he was unimpressed."

This is what I keep hearing about him, too. I get the impression he wanted to elevate Macy's to make it more like Bloomies but I bet he's realizing it's never going to happen in a store that has a different sale every weekend.

Very common behavior from CEO's. I've experienced it many times.

Just what I thought he didn’t seem too outgoing or inspirational. Not sure what it is with top management at Macys but they need a can do, positive common sense leader. Took on more than he expected and now working to keep this sinking ship afloat. Macys has to listen to their customers and start providing a better experience.

He came to our store. He’s neither dynamic or a visionary or customer focused. Same thing, doesn’t care for the employees how much does he for the customers?
