The way things are going, the job market could soon be flooded with laid-off workers who have similar skills, which will make finding a job a pain.

“Everything is going to be alright." Yeah there’s always welfare, medicaid, food stamps, housing and other government assistance we can always depend on.
"Everything is going to be alright." Don't forget to tell this to yourself everyday. It's not going to be easy once out of job, there is too much competetions and if you don't have any real connections in the companies then it is even worst case.
Take good care of yourself nothing else matters but you!!
to Captain Obvious, the OP: in general, keeping your resume up to date is a very basic good practice if you work in high tech. always be prepared.
The job market is already flooded with those skills. Definitely get the jump on things now.
