Why doesn't Optum offer an Early Retirement package and allow a reduction by a more humane method for anyone who would like to consider that option? Most other companies do this.

Oh. That would cost them, something. Not good for the shareholders. Tisk tisk.
The company offered a buyout option once (essentially early retirement). The criteria was fairly low to qualify, something like 10 years with the company and had to be 50 or over. The package included roughly twice the severance pay and healthcare extension as a normal severance.
They were required to offer it to all who fit the criteria, with the intent that the "right or targeted" population would take it. That did not turn out to be the case. Far too many of the top performers and niche skillset people that they wanted to keep took the voluntary package, and far too many of the hangers-on stayed with the company.
So... the company/board learned a lesson to not offer it again.
What are you smoking? A retirement in a company that has no pension is called.... QUITTING. So yes, we offer an option to retire. So, ding ding ding, you win!
because your colleagues (those who pride themselves in having worked 30-35 years at UHG) do not want to retire. my department (ECS-Behavioral) has 8 employees well past the 35 year mark and they do not want to go. its time for some fresh meat.
I would love an early retirement package but sadly only companies that care about their employees do them.
If you have a good relationship with your boss you could volunteer to be chosen when the next RIF comes around. Get your severance and save someone else from being canned that needs the job. I know this has happened in the past but probably not very common.
Buyouts only occur in companies where a pension exists. So keep dreaming.
The company doesn't offer a retirement package so there is no point. You get severance, same kind of thing.
Ha that’ll never happen. Hence why we should unionize!!!!
What on earth could they offer as Early Retirement when there is no pension involved? Free Healthcare till 65??
When have you seen Optum be humane though any of this? In one Landmark market the Executive director scheduled 1:1 meetings with all the employees in a department and told them the purpose of the meeting was to get to know more about them, their role and hear feedback/concerns. It turned out to be 1:1s where they were all terminated.
costs money so nope not happening
