Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

9 min grace period

Since I've been with Macy's we've always been able to use our "grace period" 9 mins before or 9 mins early. I understand that this is meant for once in a blue and not an everyday occurrence but why all of the sudden is my store is saying you cannot leave 9 mins early no matter what and this has never been allowed. They're literally hounding us about this and it annoys me because I would use it if I am picking up my kid or running to an appt. Is this all stores or is my store just making up their own rules as always

Yeah, you waltz in 9-10 mins after shift start time, clock in on the closest register to the door, stop and get your theatro, get a copy of the functional planner and look it over, shoot the breeze with a co-worker or three on your way to the department, and finally arrive in your department 16-17 mins after shift start time. Someone else has opened registers and started putbacks or waited on the customers who have come in for that return, pickup, or payment as soon as the doors opened. Way to be a burden on your teammates. I see it everyday.

Actually its 10 minutes and a I used it everyday. Call HR and open a case with them. You can't be fired it's policy. You probably have these new managers that think they can make their own rules. Call the 1-800 Macy's employee HR .

Use it occasionally for needs and perhaps let your captain/manager/fellow colleagues know you need to leave a few minutes early. It's not for everyday use

I was late almost every single day for years and years, stayed employed by the grace of the grace period!

This policy is in regards to a point system as a guideline for emergencies not as a cushion for being late. However it can be used for coaching if someone continually leaves early or clocks early with out approval. An initial conversation can be had and documented and if it continues further action including termination even though it is not affecting your point status it is in regards to the behavior.

Situations can come up to cause some one to be a few minutes late, occasionally. But if it is an on going, continual issue you may have time management problems, disrespect for your fellow colleagues waiting to to on their break, or the desire to continually bend the rules, such as dress code: garments to tight, wearing house slippers to work, showing way too much skin. Self-reflect. This colleague should be very happy, we no longer have the point system! Buh bye!!!!

Unfortunately I can't find it in writing. If anyone can find it and let me know where exactly to look, that would be helpful. Thanks!!

You can leave 10 minutes early and it won’t hit reliability. Grace period is actually 10 minutes.
You can clock 10 minutes early and again it won’t trigger reliability. It’s in their reliability policy online. Your store is just being petty!
