Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Should I apply for unemployment now or later?

Can anyone recommend, do I apply for unemployment at the beginning of my leave or wait to apply for unemployment later? Pros / cons?

CVS doesn’t deny unemployment. Identity thieves filed a claim with unemployment while I was still employed and they paid out.

You cannot collect until severance runs out. If you try to apply early, they will deny you and tell you to come back once severance is finished.

Everyone’s SSN was leaked on the dark web. So it’s highly like a fraudster already submitted an unemployment claim for you.

Depends on if you received severance or garden leave

When I was previously laid off I applied for it on my last day of work...

It may be better to wait due to tax implications. You may have higher taxes for this year if you start to collect now. Salary (pre layoff) + severance + unemployment.

I was laidoff 2020. I had six months of severance. My package gave zero guidance for my state unemployment. I recommend going to your state website and read up. You might be missing out if you wait to file.
