Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

What’s going on with Global Comms and Commercial ops?

Both of these groups have hired consultants to audit the staffing, structure, and efficiency in order to advise on a new model going forward. It all implies major upheaval, restructure and layoffs. The com ops VP recently handed out some vague information and scripts to people leaders on what they can tell concerned employees, and a bunch of leaders are in OHQ next week to talk about the results of these audits and plans moving forward.
Employees are getting the typical “Don’t worry, we’re just positioning ourselves to succeed” lines. Anyone know more detail? What’s actually going on?

Deciding if they need to 2x, 3x or 4x the number of VP positions. My guess is 10x.

What do you expect when Kent "Flounder" Dorfman is CEO.

This is exactly why I left the group. Too many “leaders” who had no clue what any of the people in their org actually do. The folks doing all of the work are getting burnt out and underpaid and literally 2 levels up couldn’t tell you what they do if their life depended on it.

The Comm Ops position is VP level because it was combined from a bunch of other cr-p that should have been multiple positions, as a result of restructuring. Basically it's at that level because they eliminated a bunch of other positions and it's a way to get one person to shut their yap and do the jobs of several others.

a failed attempt to undo geoffs failed op model. Anyone wanna guess what its going to cost us to unravel this disaster? Pretty humiliating for Geoff to to have to re-do it just a few years in. but I guess thats what you get when you engineer the extrordinary

Early indication of Geoff’s replacement and transition strategy. You can wish him farewell at the upcoming Science & Technology Conference.

Com Ops should not have a VP position. Sr. Director maximum.

All these so-called leaders just create silos and then try to promote themselves to the top of the silos.

Then they hire consultants and endless meetings to restructure.

Long overdue and good for the overall health of the company. Medtronic has too many made up positions compared to its peers while they outperform us.
