Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Broadcom is funding bonuses at 100%. So lucky! So generous!

It was revealed that Broadcom is being super generous with the bonus this year!

Normally, Broadcom ranks all employees 1 to 3. 1 is exceeding expectations, 2 is fine, 3 is needs improvement. And normally only 1s and 2s get the 100% bonus, but not this year. Broadcom is ranking everyone as a 2 this time, for bonus purposes.

So all you super hard workers? Good job su-kers! You get exactly the same bonus as the "rest and vest" crew that you have to work so hard to cover for. And you rank 3 employees who coast and do as little as possible? No problem, here's your bonus just like anyone else.

It has been explained to me that this year we are lucky. Broadcom is treating everyone the same this year, and it's next year that they are going to really crack down and rank us correctly. So they went easy on us this year. This is them going easy on us. Next year is going to be a lot tougher.

A rank 2 with the company exceeding revenue objective will get you a bonus that is 1.5x your target bonus amount. Not bad actually, assuming of course you are not canned before the payout.

The site is called ‘The Lay-off’ - think people who have been laid off have more reason to be here than you. Perhaps if you want to whinge about your TC or fully funded bonus the echo chamber of Blind may be better for you…..

VMware side managers are sh*t scared of HT. Another example - promotion recommendations are okay as long as they are for levels that don't need HT signoff.

We will be all ranked 2 this year, this is what the manager told us in the 1-to-1 meetings and in the huddles as well.

This is why people feel like nothing is ever enough. You are making 2 to 3x the TC of what you would anywhere else, but complain it's not fair that some didn't get more than the others doing the same.

There is no way junior / mid level engineers are making 2x - 3x TC of elsewhere..

that's only applicable to staff

This is why people feel like nothing is ever enough. You are making 2 to 3x the TC of what you would anywhere else, but complain it's not fair that some didn't get more than the others doing the same.

This wasn't a Broadcom wide decision, just VCF decided that because of all the disruption it was difficult to fairly apply rankings.
