Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Unused PTO (Vacation) time

Do they pay for unused PTO (Vacation time)?
Do I have to use up my PTO before getting notified of layoff by my manager or can I use it within the two weeks after getting notified?

You are not able to use your PTO during the 2 week notice, if you resign. Use it before you resign. This is also state specific.

If you have 40 hours you get a check for 40 hours. If you have less then 40 you get a check for those hours. Anything over 40 hours you do not get paid for.

In Texas, my coworkers got severance plus 40 hours of PTO, as long as you have 40 hours in your leave balance.

Talk to an employment lawyer.

My understanding is - payout of PTO after a layoff is state specific. I was paid my full amount of PTO, but others have suggested researching your state policy

Depends on the State laws.

@fjs+1uOVBiMO Is the one week of PTO part of severance or an addition to the severance.
Another words, if I worked for 6 years and supposed to get 6 weeks of severance, does that mean PTO is part of the 6 weeks of severance? or do I get 6 weeks of severance plus the one week of unused PTO?
Thanks!

My coworkers who were laid off were given one week of PTO as part of their severance.

  1. if you put in your 2 weeks', you cannot use your PTO. that's part of UHG policy; you can look it up on HR Direct.
  1. if you're fired, you don't get paid the PTO. it's considered a grant and is not income unless you live in a state that requires that it be considered income.
  1. if you're laid off, your buyout may include PTO payout. mine did. I've heard others' did not. I guess it depends on what's in your offer. my offer included 2 weeks of paying me to do nothing and then a PTO buyout, so it didn't really benefit me to use up my PTO.

You are unable to use PTO during the 2 weeks. Use it before you put in your notice.
