CVS Health…where being stellar will get you fired

Be a mediocre employee who never works more than 40 hours because, in the end, the harder you work and try to climb the corporate ladder, the more you are putting a target on your back. Here at CVS, we do not value hard work and loyalty. In fact, it will cost you your job.

Here is how this happens - unfortunate but very true.

Top performers get better annual review ratings / larger raises and bonus payouts, and over time this can lead to being at the top of their pay grade or even above it. This puts a huge target on an individual.

This layoff seems to have targeted high earners, folks whose total compensation (salary+benefits) was >$150k (directors, leads, high paid tech people). By targeting these folks, they can reach their savings goal by eliminating less roles than if they targeted people whose total comp was $100k. This is basic McKinsey 101 playbook.

The good news for those folks is that they can easily find something new and better pretty quick through their own network of people who have worked with them prior and know "hey this person is awesome, hire them asap!"

The bad news is the company will lose so much knowledge and history when these folks depart.

Clearly those mocking stellar employees are those that came from Aetna. You all bragged about how much better you were than us, but when it was time to prove it, most of your workforce jumped ship. They could not handle the pressure and were caught with their pants down. It was all smoke and mirrors. The CVS side never claimed to be perfect. At least we own our mistakes.

I can’t stop laughing, this poster actually found a way to say “stellar, cvs and employees” at one time. Nobody is pining anyone down, all of you stink.

If the recent layoffs have taught us anything, it is that this is so true.
