Thread regarding VMware layoffs

If I got more RSUs, I would be working harder

Don't get me wrong, the RSU thing is nice and I am very thankful (not to Broadcom, but to the universe/god/whatever). That being said, the work environment has become totally toxic due to changes in people's behavior and the upcoming lab crunch. Can't really do my job without the resources I need to serve my customers.

Pretty sure I didn't get the worst RSU pay, but certainly not the best. Really disappointed that my manager (whom I have respected quite a bit before) has revealed a real arrogance and hubris. Not a fan of folks who act like they are always better or smarter than others. It's just not a good look. Oh, and I'm not your "bro", bro. So stop acting like I got it as good as you and want to work the same as you.

The demands from him and his manager/director peers are unrealistic. I can see if I were getting their levels of RSUs, I'd be as 'motivated' as they are. However, I just cannot convince myself to work any harder than 'just enough to not get fired', which honestly wouldn't be so bad before the year expiration of VMware severance.

Anybody else with similar sentiments?

This post and subsequent posts and reactions made me realize who the main audience of this site is. Just in case some people I would care about are reading, here it goes…

Count your RSU’s. If they aren’t vested, don’t think they’re yours, until they are. No guarantees.

One day, you will be told you’re done. If you’re competent and your manager is not a total !d!ot, you will extend your stay and vest longer. Still, one day you will be done.

If you don’t have that many RSU’s right now, that may be a reason why you still there. Be careful what you ask for. Be prepared.

If you had a lot of RSU’s that vest, there is incentive to get rid of you. Good luck.

Ask the question

Do Indian H1B folks in US get the same RSUs for the same level as Indian folks in India?

Stop.

Take a moment.

Think it through.

I’ve seen it all the time as a manager.

It’s all about who is closer to the mothership, deal with it.

High caste people seem to be offended by the inbreeding theory. But that is the truth. Deal with it.

Can someone please explain why the US folks got so much more RSUs than other regions for doing the exact same job

This is the way! Not a Broadcom thing, VMware and every Silicon Valley company always gives sh-t RSU to the foreign staff.

If you are only realizing this now, I feel sorry for you.

You want to play in the big capitalist league? Get your US citizenship.

It isn’t personal, it’s just the way.

There are a large number of narcissistic abusers and psychopathic abusers and gaslighting artists in VMware Management. Everyone knows this. You are seeing change in your management recently then you may be experiencing changes related to the recent uncertainty. But abuse is known to everyone in VMware. Has been going on for years. You were lucky to not have it in your team. There is nothing that can be done about abuse because it is known to everyone and still nothing happens. Not worth to die of cancer for VMware. Better to look out.

Can someone please explain why the US folks got so much more RSUs than other regions for doing the exact same job, often doing less hours and less work and less accounts? How does that work?

I was actually asking if other people are experiencing a change in the behaviors of their management. Just curious.

Who cares about management. They don't know jack shiiittt. Just feed them shiiiittt. Everyone is just trying to survive. Broadcom uses AI to fire people. That is what Google also does using gmail and gchat and other inputs. Don't worry about management.

just enough to not get fired

Hmm. Even less, you must do. Secretly serve the Empire, you do. Appearances of effort, maintain you must. But any true work, avoid at all costs. The Dark Side of laziness, embrace you should.

OP here

“how about you just be thankful you have a job when thousands of your colleagues have been let go?”

And how about you read that I said I am thankful. I understand there are plenty of folks who have been let go and I feel for them. The job market is cr-p as I am looking now and am experiencing it firsthand.

I was actually asking if other people are experiencing a change in the behaviors of their management. Just curious.

Also, if anybody says “it’s business”- duh. I know. Again, just curious about the behaviors of people.

I already have accepted I will be fired and nobody really gives a sh-t. I'll just be a corporate wh--e as long as I can gulping down RSUs.

Even if you worked harder, it wouldn’t matter. You are a cell in a spreadsheet that will be optimized away in a decision that your manager or your managers manager has no influence over. They are just puppets pretending to wear big boy pants.

It just a waiting game until it’s your turn to write your goodbye message. If you have a similar opportunity elsewhere , take it.
