Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Do I get a 60 day notice once my manager tells me I am getting laid-off?

(Let's say if my manager tells me I am laid-off on Oct 17.) Will I still be on Optum's payroll for 60 days after my manager tells me I am getting laid-off on Oct 17? When would my last working day be with Optum?
When do I file for unemployment? After getting severance pay or the day after my manager notifies me, or after 60 days from Oct 17, or only after getting the severance check? Do I have to report the severance check amount to unemployment as payment from the company?
Do I need anything from the company, like a letter stating I worked for Optum in order to collect unemployment?
Need some good guidance from people who went through this already. Thanks!

If you do get laid off and are in Minnesota I highly recommend filing a letter for demand of wages.

Might get you a little extra $ for the pain and suffering.

I was laid off in Mass. We got 2 weeks. We could apply for unemployment after the initial week of not working as the severance was a legal claims document. Other states are different when it comes to severance. You sign the agreement on your last day. Benefits run through end of month then cobra if you want it (very exepensive). Last day was 8/1 and starting new job next week. Good luck there is a lot of competition out there. Would probably start looking now if you feel you will be laid off. Job market is slowing and lay offs increasing. Just discussed it in the tv.

HR should explain all of this to you But it's Optum - they don't know anything .

The WARN act has a lot of verbiage around facility closings and mass layoffs. Somehow Optum gets around that most of the time except when they close offices or clinics.

You get two weeks, and a severance package. You can sign the severance until after the 2 weeks.

Access stays open for those two weeks, as normal.

Severance varies- For example, I was RIF’d 4-18c last day 5-3. Payday with normal check -1 day on 5/4.

I had lots of time at the company and got 12 weeks severance. They do not pay out PTO balance. I signed my severance agreement in 5/4 and it took 2 pay periods to receive.

I couldn’t apply for unemployment until the time of the severance expired (12 weeks). By then I had another job. Your state may vary.

WARN act did not apply as I work from home and my location had one employee. And my state is not labor friendly.

Good luck!

If they filed for the lay offs they have to notify you 60 days before your last day so if you’re getting laid off they have to notify you 60 days before 10/17. If they didn’t file then it’s their own discretion but you can go back under the WARN act

On the last round with Landmark/HBMC, most people who were laid off received a 60 day notice and were paid through the notice period. You sign your severance agreement and turn it in on the last day. I do know of some who only received 2 weeks (BH NPs) but have no idea why.

Some people have been laid off but still had access to their computer so they could still work during that two week period.

You get two weeks. Additionally, all your access except for chat and email will be cut during that time, so you wouldn't be able to do anything except look for new jobs.

Edit to my first comment, I skipped your very first question. They are doing 2 week notices, but all the other info still stands. Apologies…

Hi, yes you would. You would receive pay as long as you are still employed up to your actual term date. Your severance would come about 2 pay periods after your term date. If you have any questions, call and set up a case with employee relations. I had to do the same to get clarification on my own stuff as well. Good luck!
