Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Serious - Desperate to leave, help please

I’m an 8+ year experienced highly specialized upstream employee with a graduate degree limited to Houston.

After 8 long years, I do have my integrity in tact, but minimal transferable skills to achieve a similar salary.

Do you have recommendations for industries or job titles? Are there internal broadening roles in something where I can gain skills to leave?

Any help is appreciated

Take a slight cut in pay to somewhere you can get transferrable skills. That's number one.
You won't work anywhere for more than 10 years to keep progressing. No 30-40 year situations exist.
And, i could propose, get away from Houston at the same time.

Apply to technical roles at o&g A&D investment banking groups or private equity in Houston. Or pursue an MBA from a top program. Or get a masters in a separate engineering curriculum and leave o&g.

Pioneer was brought by XOM and Hess was brought by Chevron. Not many options out there. I have exactly same situation and concerns as well. Don’t know what to do.

@OP There are two types of people working in every company: the ones who can get up and walk out anytime, and the ones who can’t. Figure out which one you are and take it from there.

You should try Pioneer or Hess
