Problem with the Labor relations is that the language they want with automation is they will always sc--w themselves.
Service problems will surely happen with the cuts to operating ratios that Oroban wants to get down to.
Wish we were stronger like ILA ILWU

Automation is a very vague term. CBT’s instead of trainers is an example of automation. If you have a question during a CBT is it going to answer it? In signal we used to spend mere seconds getting OTA over the radio. Now thanks to “automation” we routinely wait up to 45mins for OTA. We used to put an order on a crossing over the radio or phone, took a minute at most. Now thanks to automation it can take 10-15mins, just in answering the questions for the automation and not even actually physically disabling anything. Real, actual production has dropped bcuz of automation. Automation has made our jobs harder bcuz we rush and rush and are busier but we get less and less accomplished. Not saying this is always the case but it definitely has severe drawbacks making less people do more tasks and adding unneeded complexity to those tasks. Any union is wise to question automation. I wish our union had.

So take the 17% and like it …automation is around the corner for the RR .

The sticking point for them is the language on automation, the companies want more of it and their most recent offer was the 50% raise and to keep the current language on automation. The problem with the current language is that the companies have been violating that language already...

The union wants stronger language. I bet if they're offered stronger language on that they'll happily take the rest of the offered deal.

We work under the Railway Labor Act. Our contract never expires, it's just amended. Become educated.

Maybe my tin foil hat is too tight but if those guys truly turned down a 50% raise w/ no changes to their benefits? I wonder if their union is being told (bribe to strike to create or foster a negative public opinion of unions. Yes trades are under appreciated and way too often under compensated, but the greedy Wall Street jerks would definitely stage something like this to try and stop a true labor movement in this country. Think of those who believed if they paid for and got a BS college degree, they have student loans for their adult life, and they’re watching what they are told are uneducated blue collar workers getting big raises and earning more money than they do. Many of those duped people would point their resentment at tradesmen instead of the white collar criminals who are robbing all of us.
