Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

A toxic environment is more likely to change you than you are to change it.

The question now becomes, are you in one now. If so, then its time for you to leave.

@3yph+1uMYnYUg Your manager is effectively normalizing extended efforts which end up becoming an expectation from his superiors once he / she has consistently shown that level of involvement. Indirectly, it becomes an expectation of his direct reports to follow suit, as a superhuman effort becomes the standard for simply netting out as a ‘valued contributor’ (‘consistently strong’ sounded better, fwiw). Citi is devoid of culture, other than serving as advocacy for presenteeism and celebrating the number of hours worked, rather than efficiency and accuracy.

Speaking as someone whose manager tends to work very long hours, I've talked to him about the importance of work life balance. Not just mine, but his too. The thing is, he doesn't want to be working like that, but he says he's lived through times like these before and they don't last forever. But he's working to help solve problems that make everyone on my team perform and look better, not just so we can do well when year end comes around, but so that we don't get riffed. And he's never once expected us to work his hours. Just felt the need to say they're not all jerks and it's not always some coping mechanism. I respect him a lot.

Yeah, I friend of mine was in a very tough spot. His manager was a jerk and verbally abusive. They interviewed elsewhere and was made an offer that was better than they had at Citi after working for 5 years, so they took it. Now, he’s much happier and productive with better pay. His biggest regret is not leaving Citi much sooner.

I totally agree with you @1ecq+1uMYnYUg. Recently an ex Citi employee informed that, quit on the recent job took after that employee resigned here, stating the new company environment is toxic and then said regret to left the job at Citi.

Even In one, its not like one can leave the next day, especially with the difficulty to get a new job at the moment. Its more realistic to tolerate it the best you can while planning your next move. I do agree the environment can change you. If you look around, you would most likely end up like the employees you hate the most. Just do your best to avoid the change while planning the next move.

Post ID: @1yds+1uMYnYUg Mr. /Ms. Citi HR, the OP probably already Did talk to the @SSH0LE but just like writing complaints and grievances on the VOE Comments box and/or reporting the @SSH0LE to Ethics etc., it's like talking to a brick wall. This is why Employees vent out their complaints, grievances and frustrations on www.thelayoff.com. At least other current employees are made aware of Citi's toxic and destitute workplace, And prospective employees will think twice if not 3x before they apply for a job at Citi or accept a job offer. LOL!

Please talk to her/him directly instead of venting out your frustration here. Probably that “arselicker” doesn’t have any one so that coping mechanism…

An arselicker on my team is on all night, would be interested to know if they will look back fondly at age 75 about all of those extra hours they put in, which is really just a poor coping mechanism

In toxic work cultures being a workaholic is normalized and missing sleep is glamorized. The best way to get ahead is to burnout.

In a healthy work culture, quality of life is expected and having a life is celebrated. You’re expected to put your well being above work.

What is your work culture like? In which direction does your manager lean?
