while we are at it, why not convert some office space into a sleeping pod hotel and offer futon mats so we can work all hours and skip any long commutes
If you are considered a "high" salary country, you are in danger. Educated people at less cost has and will affect these countries. India, Vietnam, Egypt etc are less cost. Great people that have and will benefit from this.

If I can WFH so can someone working in another part of the world making a fraction of what I make here. Corporations do not care. I fear if this happens, what the heck are we going to do here in the U.S.?
RTO is for the workers not leadership. Executives from the major businesses collaborate and all try to implement RTO at the same time so they can get people to go back to the office in fear they can't work remote anywhere.
Regardless of status Dell will keep laying people off until they hit their target. This stunt is just their way of getting people to quit.
All the executives are in workday as office based, whether they go to an office or not is a different story
