Can I request to be part of the layoffs

No, but you could always quit.
They want to make the choice, they don't want to leave the choice up to you.
You can effectively stage your own layoff if that's what you want. Stop going into the office if you're hybrid and do the absolute bare minimum and use all your time to job search. They'll eventually put you on a PIP or whatever, just go through the motions, make plausible excuses, and string it out as long as possible. At that point, you're pretty committed to moving out the door whether you find a job or not before they fire you.
Why don't they offer an Early Retirement Option to spare folks that need their jobs? Maybe they live in their fears that they'll lose too many folks (or folks they can't affort to lose)?
I would sign up today. I'm tired of this merry-go-round of layoffs every year!
It’s not the person they are laying off, it’s the position. That’s why you can’t volunteer.
I know someone that tried to do this. They fired her. So no, you can’t volunteer.
They would probably lose too many people if they asked for volunteers lol
6+ months of emergency fund
I can help - what's your full name, social security number and DOB?

Hoping it was in a way that I can possibly save someone else’s job. I’ve seen some companies who will offer voluntary layoffs so hoping that’s the case here
There have been many such posts on this forum which is outright cruel- imagine the plight of many who have insurance, mortgage, family responsibilities aspiring to move on but can’t due to hard job market outside. They count blessings they at least have a job. Stop with such insensitive posts
