Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Green Badge -> Blue Badge, Should I Accept?

I've been a green badge at Intel for awhile now and my department manager told me in confidence that my lead who is also my sponsor is getting fired. That manager would like to hire me on as a blue badge to replace them and has received the OK to open a req.

I am flattered that someone recognized the hard work that I put in, but at the same time it doesn't seem right. Considering how challenging the job market is right now I am really tempted to accept the offer.

Thoughts? Should I accept?

Stay as a green badge, better pay, work from home, not part of the super lame and boring intel culture.

I couldn’t bare to have to deal with all those prozaced up sales ladies all day who know nothing about technology but say “low hanging fruit” a lot.

Like someone else said, "only you can really answer that question".
Do you have a better option? Do you have any other leads to a better job?
If not, this is certainly worth considering.

Do what's good for you, that's the Intel way, you'll fit right in.

Be careful. A fulltime job is good, but if what he says is true, and you join, you're going to be his b-tch, slave, etc.

“ received the OK to open a req ”

Nice story dude. How can you accept something when the req is not even there yet? If true, ask your manager to open the req first. Then you apply, get offer, and then accept.

I’d want more stability and would change to a blue badge. If the pay is the same or higher, you have nothing to lose. If you want to leave Intel, you can look for jobs while you’re a blue badge.

I really don’t understand why some of the comments on this thread are condescending/complicating this. Regardless of the outcome, be happy your work was recognized.

Imagine they are getting let go , not fired. Which makes hiring you illegal if it’s for the same role. Be careful

Don’t count chicks before they are hatched. You do know managers at Intel are known for being liars and sc-mbags right? Have you heard this?

You’ve heard the apocryphal Chinese fable about “bring back the basket”?
I’m sure your lead brought back the basket a few years back

Do you have a better offer somewhere else? BB > GB for income/benefits etc.
If nothing else, use it to buy time while looking somewhere else.

What's the worse that could happen? Laid off? As a GB, probably going to happen anyways. At least as a new hire, you might actually have a chance to stretch it out a while longer.

If you accept you’ll have to do performance reviews quarterly, Insights, OKR’s, log good catches.
Unless the money is spectacular I wouldn’t do it save your sanity

Dear Conflicted, You seem to sense the mission is hopeless, but like the ego strokes along the way. You can enjoy your current position and bury your head in the sand regarding likely imminent corporate implosion or you can instead apply your energy to finding a new company to join that is more likely to succeed. Either path has pain. Pay now or pay later, but you will pay.
