That’s the opposite of how they work.Remember it’s union. The only ones left ARE people with tenure. They get priority under their contract.

Can a BK happen still in Nov? How does dish have money now, if the deal is only to be approved next year towards the end?

Check out the dtv layoff board. They will want to get rid of expensive longtimers over time so dont have to announce on news. If they overtrim, they will replace with college graduates.

The deal has not even been approved yet. How can there be layoffs?

Dish has less subs and more employees than directv. Directv style is to layoff around the holidays and quarterly. I would say to postpone any expensive trips and have a lean holiday. Lately, they like January, in the past December. Legacy directv liked October but those days are long gone. Happy New Year!

Are dish employees still dish employees? Or is only when the deal close that is when change takes place?

You all do realize DTV is union and yould have to ratify a contract to have any hope of stable long term employment.Took DTV @ 5 years to sign theirs.

Any deal would require regulatory approval, which could drag on or not be approved at all. Assuming the news reports are accurate, this is not a done deal.

For those still working at Dish this is yet another incentive to get your resumes out ASAP!

Will be interesting if EchoStar would be a sustainable business without the video business.

If that many are impacted surely there would be a warn notice. Is today the first day since signing?

This is happening. No speculation. DISH will need to cut 47% of their Colorado staff. DTV will run day to day, with Dish essentially selling the rights to customers. DISH employees will be impacted within 45 days of signing.

How soon are layoffs likely?

Probably will be (getting bought out by private equity tends to go that way...) but nothing announced immediately.

Dish has lots of debt, just curious, why would direct buy dish out? Lots of customer churn too.

Headquarters are in different states, so for sure many of the people in Colorado will either have to relocate or start searching for new jobs elsewhere.

maybe dish employees get carried over to direct?

How soon do you think dish employees would be affected, if the deal is announced? Right away?

DISH employees celebrating this like it wouldn’t lead to massive layoffs is hilarious. The first thing I would do is layoff all of the DISH leadership who drove the company into the ground, eliminate all redundant employees, and ki-l the DISH brand

Wondering how the brands would merge? Wondering will dish employees be brought over to the new company? Dish still has a lot of debt due in November.

This could all be speculation.
