Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Tired of Qualcomm

I'm almost hoping to be laid off. I don't want to work at a place where disagreeing with management can get you fired. And heaven forbid you try to introduce new ideas. To say change isn’t welcome is an understatement. They prefer employees who just say "yes" to everything, even when it’s clear something’s not working. That’s just how things are.

Can you volunteer to be laid off? How would you go about it?

@zmm If its been only 5 months then do your best to hang on until you get to your 2yr anniversary. Absorb as much as you can and try to enjoy the experience. From the outside view our company name appears to have a good reputation and working 2yrs is the bare minimum that I believe a recruiter looks for as opposed to being labeled a job hopper.

The job market is really tough out there (I have tried for a yr) so my recommendation is to keep looking while continuing to perform at a high level. It is even tougher if you’re laid off. Our work environment is terrible, we are doing the job of multiple people and there is no reward or appreciation. I don’t expect much from our raises. The constant cloud of layoffs is depressing.

I am late in my career and I stopped looking. I hope to hang on for a few years longer so I can leave on my own free will.

For you younger in career colleagues I suggest you get the heck out of here while you are still marketable and somewhat affordable. Good luck.

This is the current employee mindset:

  • I'm a VP/Dir, way overpaid, I don't have any real skills, I hope no one notices, just hang on until I die of old age.
  • I'm a Principal. I got here through taking credit for other people's work, just hang on, keep the illusion rolling. I'm hot stuff.
  • I'm a Staff/Sr Staff. I'm too good for this sh!t, I do all the work. Leetcode interviews are hard, but I'll keep trying. I need out of this h3llh0le.
  • I'm a Sr Engineer. Why is everyone so sad? Did I make a mistake coming here? Maybe I should go? Maybe I should stay? I don't know. Ask a layoff website for advice.

Finding employment is tough right now.
If you don't like your Qualcomm job, I suggest that you "Fake it until you make it."

It’s been five months since I joined Q and I can already feel everything mentioned in this post. If you have an opinion management then you are screewed. Teams / engineers are understaffed. No new ideas are welcome.

While the non stop layoffs continue, qcom has the gall to spew drivel like this on their website. Don't you feel valued?

"Qualcomm creates an inspiring and inclusive workplace culture where employees feel valued and supported to invent and develop advanced, leading-edge technologies.
Our Company owes its success to the hard work, dedication, and diversity of our people. Our workforce is a melting pot. Our varied backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and ideas help us increase our global awareness and are crucial to our ability to innovate.
