Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Your experiences with job hunting?

I’ve been trying for a while now. Wanted to be ahead of layoffs and the TD decline. It’s really not good out there these days. I got only two offers for the past three months, and both were worse compared to what I have here. What are your experiences? Anyone having success? Any advice or recommendations?

I've been looking for a while, the market is tough, haven't found a good fit, have had to remove myself from consideration at least 1 time.

I took a role that paid significantly less than what I was earning at TD. The difference was the people and the management. It is like a breath of fresh air to have a management team that has a vision and supports you. It has made a world of difference to my mental health as well.

My advice, keep searching and that opportunity will come along. You just gotta seize it and never look back. Know that any role outside of TD is going to be better.

To add to the other commenter, you are competing with thousands of new grads and big tech company layoffs. As the market cools and new grads continue to flood the market, the situation is only going to get worse. Most importantly: never switch jobs right before a layoff. Plan your next start date about 1 month after layoffs and always give 2 week notice. Burning bridges burns relationships with people who can hold a grudge against you in the future! If you do happen to get laid off, you get severance and a 3-4 week vacation where you can recharge before starting a new job.

If it is with a company that has a decent reputation and you can position yourself to another job, I would take it. The saying "It is much easier to find a job when you have a job" especially holds true in this market. I people imply that layoffs are to weed people out. If you were laid off, you may not have received one of those offers. So, count them as a blessing
