In the UK and yesterday, manager scheduled an ad-hoc meeting. Is this the 'you are being laid-off' call? Has anyone experienced this to shed some light. I want to be prepared. Thank you.

@OP+1uGsgmon - any update?
There are two scripts. Both start out the same, but after the introduction there is a sentence that says either, "your role has been retained" or "your role has been eliminated". The "retained" call is from your direct manager, the "eliminated" usually come from one level higher. HR is not present on either one. I lost half my team in January that way.
@1awn+1uGsgmon - completely agree. Being laid off is ok, but the way they execute it is appalling and create unnecessary resentment. My manager keeps scheduling this kind of meeting, and then cancel it, and reschedule and cancel and reschedule and cancel again. As if they got morbid sense of satisfaction from this.
As a Manager, I have flagged to my SLT many times that they need to start using the Why this? Why us? Why now? in email invites because my reports have said similar to you!
In this time period an unexpected and blank email invite is unnerving.
@hnc+1uGsgmon Skip-level manager is your direct manager's manager.
Be weary if it is a call scheduled on a Friday, and pay close attention to the number of attendees on the call, and their respective role. Record it if possible.
@cef+1uGsgmon - what is 'skip level' manager? Thank you.
HR was not present, it was a 1 on 1 with the skip level manager and they read from a script which is provided to them by HR. They ask at the end if you have any questions, basic answer to any question they provide is "contact your HR rep".
All of the severance info and vacation payout info is shared by HR via a call. (In US at least).
The job market is pretty tough but there's no future with C so it's best to get out now while collecting your severance.
Cancel any vacation days u may have entered in system now so that they will pay out those unused days.
@zdd+1uGsgmon - thank you so much. I hope you have found a much better job now. My call is from my line manager but I don't think it will make a difference as the manager's manager is never bothered to do the dirty work. Was HR present at your meeting? Do you have any tips in handle the call? Thank you again.
Forgot to mention, the folks who got the call from the direct manager was the positive call where they were told they are staying!
For me and my teammates who got laid off in March, "the meeting" was scheduled by our manager's manager. I instantly knew when I saw the "Catchup Meeting" pop up on my calendar.
Good luck to you. All will work out for the best!
