I'm still angry about everything that's happened in the last several months and can't get myself to let go. Somebody said it a while ago and I agree, it doesn't feel like we're safe even knowing it's over for now. Instead, it feels like we're all on borrowed time.

There will almost certainly be more layoffs in the next 6-18 months.
Seems to be the culture in large American tech firms.
Couple of choices… find a firm where it is less cultural and genuinely a last resort (as in, we can’t pay the electric bill next month unless we let staff go), or build out your contingency plans so if it does happen, you’re in a safe place.
Much better than feeling continuously in peril every time a quarterly announcement comes round.

There's always a crowd each round that thinks this is Cisco's first layoff. Cisco has been tossing people in blocks small and large for over 23 years. As a free standing corporation Cisco will have frequent layoffs from now until the doors close or they're bought out, and given the level of talent that built the technical debt that is choking Cisco, any acquirer is going to have to continue getting rid of people.
