I'm constantly stressed out. My anxiety is off the charts. Will there ever be a time when we can stop worrying about layoffs? At least for a while? It's hard to feel secure when every week it seems like there’s new talk about cuts. Like we're always waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Sadly no. They would need to actually innovate and figure out something that could right the ship. Unfortunately, the current C Suite aren’t that brilliant, and they think that cost savings from layoffs/people quitting and pump and dumps to the stock ontop of the AI bubble is making them look like they are geniuses. Of course… it’s going to burst. They truly have no plan, and if they did I’m sure it would be handled as well as everything else in the last handful of years (see Hindenburg footage). Morale is in the toilet, and as we learned over the last few years, they don’t care. With the bad job market they assume many are just so “grateful” to have a job they will put up with anything. We are all stressed and anxious. Too bad they won’t just offer Voluntary Leave for a payout, i for one would take it in a heartbeat
I used to be totally safe at EMC but that was a great company. A real technology company. Dell is well just putting together hardware parts.
People I know who began on the EMC side tell me horror stories of having to change all the passwords in a hurry because the whole department’s were kept in an excel file that got leaked.
Here at Dell we’re at least civilized enough to put the passwords in our code.
Go see your physician, tell them the stress is affecting your mental health and get yourself signed off for the next 6 months to ride this crazy period out. Keep an eye on things as they develop and if the situation hasn’t calmed down, back to the doctors you go for another ticket.
these concerns and fears have existed since the '80s when layoffs began in earnest as a means to solidify the bottom line. Don't like this environment, take accountability and control of your career and your life. If it requires leaving current local, that's a decision and sacrifice to be made.
I know how you feel. It's terrible to know that the biggest factor of your life is outside of your control.
The bad news is that Dell plans to keep laying people off for the next few months.

"Layoffs at Dell Technologies are expected to be an ongoing part of business with more cuts expected before the end of the year as it seeks more “disciplined cost management” to prepare for the future."
The don't specify if it's the calendar year or fiscal year. From the context, I bet that they mean the end of the fiscal year.
Do what you can to take care of yourself.
What really SU-KS is they are actually hiring people. Long time committed folks getting whacked and replaced by people who could care less about the company. Just another paycheck and if the job lasts 3 years, that's good enough for them.
If I could make any life lesson. Don't work for a large company that doesn't give a sh-t about you.
Retirement!!! Thats when you stop worrying. I'm spending my last years at a great company building products for our defense, and the defense of others. That being said, yes I've been laid off many times in my career. Just always have a backup plan, and know the best time to find a new job is when you already have one.
this mirrors a post a few weeks ago, kinda sus

Stress and Anxiety iand Jobs are not going to solve anything. Relying on education and jobs are way past it's time. Accept the fact you will lose your job, home, belongings and all will be fine. You didn't come here with anything so why worry?
