Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

5 ways to get ready for October 14

While we wait for Oct 14, do the following

  1. Update your resume and LinkedIn profile

Make sure your resume is current with your latest accomplishments, skills, and responsibilities. Polish your LinkedIn profile and expand your professional network.

  1. Build an emergency fund

Try to save 3-6 months of living expenses in case of unemployment. This may be too late, but something to think of for future layoffs. Cut non-essential spending and redirect funds to your emergency savings.

  1. Develop new skills

Take online courses or seek training opportunities to enhance your marketability. Focus on in-demand skills in your industry.

  1. Network within and outside your company

Strengthen relationships with colleagues and industry contacts. Attend professional events and join relevant online communities.

  1. Research the job market

Stay informed about job opportunities in your field. Set up job alerts on career websites and research companies you'd be interested in working for.

Happy Oct 14.

Tech sales leader in the APAC region now openly telling people if they don't like it they can leave. he is obviously under pressure to cut headcount and has been told if they can get rid of people through natural attrition first then that is better than a redundancy payout. They are trying to push people out the door before Oct 14.

Just quit before you get the call and focus 100% on getting a new job. You don’t need this stress. Even if you survive you’ll just be doing it again in a few months. The company is shrinking revenue and it’s not getting better.

Or you could get a set of kneepads and hope that by stoking the elt's ego, you won't be included in the layoffs. Lots of your coworkers are already pursuing that strategy.

Pay for a professional resume writer as they'll be able to work around the teradata story as a lot of potential employers will see teradata as a red flag.
