Notice of data breach

Notice text: Blah blah…data…blah…stolen. What data? Pretty much everything

“Why did this happen? A cybercriminal accessed our computer system without our permission”

I think they meant to say “we f….d up and did not have proper security measures or back up measures in place”

Oh wait, they would never admit they sc--wed up

Security at UHG is a joke. They are there to slow down innovation and speed to market. It’s literally how company saves money through economy of ineptitude and convulsed processes. May look best on paper but not well thought out or coordinated within security. Literally the left hand does not know what the right hand does. Latest efforts are how to engage 20k technologists and trash in meaningless vulnerability management where everything is a nail and India leaders only have a hammer. EIS aka security has no over oversight except the Board. Only group that gets funded when they fail at their job. There is no light between compliance and security. There will be another breach just because we are united in penny wise, dollar foolish.

"Security doesn't really exist in any company"

This is somewhat true. At Optum, security was always an afterthought. I was and Engineering leader there for 5 years. I can assure you that keeping security up-to-date was NEVER funded directly. It was always a part of "O&M" funding (~10% of budget).

Having spent years in OH&ECT, it wasn't until this February that we had to patch everything High and Critical without getting our hands slapped. Those daily meetings with M.V. (head of OH&ECT) looking at a raw burndown of Criticals, Highs, and Medium security issues was fun...but that should have been done years earlier. IYKYK

Security doesn't really exist in any company because software code can be manipulated if you understand any companies code. That's just the fact of life in this world of technology. If you think privacy exists regarding your data, it doesn't. Majority of your information is already online. Keep using TikTok and send that information about you and your kids to China and other countries. You are causing your own private data to be taken legally away from you buy using certain applications when you click on the "Accept" button.
