Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

"Started in EMC, I was PROUD to work at EMC."

Being an outsider and located in RR I always noticed this as well working across both sets of people. I can relate to EMC people thinking they were severely downgraded.

My interactions EMC people from East and West coast came off as more refined. The Dell from RR came off very low brow and insecure.

EMC was a great place to work. As long as you were making your number, you were good.

Dell pales in comparison to EMC; the EMC sales driven culture (work hard, play hard, earn well on performance) and continued product innovation . EMC was a meritocracy vs Dell’s DEI and CFO spreadsheet driven reimagined BS.

EMC at least attempted to innovate on their existing technologies. Dell has squandered everything they got from EMC. Heck, Travis decided that Dell didn’t need a parallel file system offering…..and Dell has been losing deals to Weka/DDN and others. Now with AI workloads they are caught with their pants down and scrambling to release something (Lightning) to bolt on to PowerScale. And yet Travis is still in charge. These guys can’t get out of their own way

@pqv+1uBfvXQf, agree and they are still in the company. Like AM and many others.

In ISG PS. Came from EMC. Worked with many groups across the company. Working with lifelong Dell folks is frustrating as he-l.
ISG is not setup for future growth. Org structure is archaic and JC calling the shots with his band of “yes men” has failed us all. Whitten came from outside and was to be the saviour. ISG is dead on its feet. AI low margin business won’t save us. WFRs will continue. What next?

Been with both, EMC spirit of 'impossible is nothing' is long gone.

We wait for 'standards' to be ratified before we start development - while EMC times, we would have developed , then standardise on it you like it or not ., and then adjust if needed but by then we would have got sizeable market share

however same happens to Cisco - so it's sign of times where brave changes lead market - today it's all about incremental change at no risk (and no gain).

I worked with a legacy EMCer who couldn’t filter a spreadsheet. An i10.

This is the 2nd acquisition I’ve been a part of and everyone always thinks where they came from is better.

Unfortunately it’s this attitude that will sink the company, commodity storage was on the way down and without Dell EMC would have been picked up and torn apart. There are good people and bad people on both sides but 8 years later this shouldn’t be a point of discussion. The sad thing is that there are not enough good technical leaders in ISG Leadership, The culture of Moshe and his team has slowly declined with just a few key people left. Once we get through modernization i am looking forward to what’s next, just neeento make it there!

I’ve worked at both and I can honestly say that I’ve worked with some terrific people in both…and some not so great in both. Such is life in EVERY company. With respect, this whole thread is a distraction from the cabal (made up of EMC and Dell) running the company and their despicable treatment of the very same people who make / who made this place tick.

I was legacy Dell. I worked with some really good people in EMC. Dell wasn't perfect, but neither was EMC. But damn, all of the bi--hing and moaning I see on here. The condescension about what Dell is compared to EMC. By far, the biggest mistake Michael made with the EMC integration was putting EMC people over big parts of ISG. They were clueless.

EMC on the other hand had some of the slimiest people I had ever known. Worse than used car lot salesman, with exceptions of course. And engaged in a lot of awful behavior that required the DOL to intervene.

Yes, that is my impression as well. I have worked for quite a bit of time at EMC and I do not miss it at all. Terrible bro-circle management , certain ethnic group was given preferential treatment - if you were not in the right bro circle you would be outsider who nobody will pay attention to no matter how hard and how smart you work. Terrible company, we should be happy it is gone!

Dell seems to have a bunch of incompetents but overall seems ethical and full of decent people, with exceptions of course.

Go back to 2015 and tell Elliot Management Company to go packing… and take yourself private. Oh, wait you did and EMC and VMware shareholders gladly accepted the offer.

Moaning 9 years later is not going to undo the past.
