I had accepted a new job that I was starting in about 4 weeks. Was tired of seeing my friends laid off.
I had 4 weeks to get laid off and I did it! I argued with my boss openly. Made some critical mistakes on customer hardware and embarrassed him whenever I could.
The result... I was laid off 3 days before I was going to give him my 2-day notice!
The Fed-Ex package just showed up with a check for $42K. (Yes, a $42K walking onto a better job bonus)
I missed out on the cake party, but for $42K in severance I CAN BUY MY OWN CAKE!
