Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I’m being spared, and I don’t want to be

I wish to be laid off. I would leave, but I want Dell to pay me to leave. I’ve been here for too long, have always been dedicated and I’m sure that Dell has had a lot of use for my skill set and work ethics. So, I’m not leaving for free.

I'm in a similar boat. If they want me to go, fine, but I want the severance. Not leaving on my own.

quiet quit and let them catch up to you bc rule #1 is do not tell your manager or your colleagues what you're thinking or planning when it's about leaving

Go and tell your boss. I did and was granted my request.

Don't worry about telling them, they are being pressured to find people to cut so you will probably be doing them a favor.

I can totally relate. Started in EMC, I was PROUD to work at EMC. Then it got bought up by Dell (the mouse/keyboard maker company with the corresponding mentality/culture). Stayed hoping it would get better ( I know... hopium...). Only went downhill from there. I 've put my heart and my soul into my work but the events of the past few months had totally changed my perception. I also wish to be layed off and get paid but I am not going to discuss this with my manager. I'll just wait till I get the ticket

Anyone telling you to quit or talk to your boss about being WFR is a moran.

"Management" is not on your side. You will save no one and unnecessarily shown your hand for zero upside.

quiet quit.

Find a way to move over to Sudhir's org. He will get rid of you

I spent 4 years trying to get WFR’d. 2 years into this effort I found I was on the keep list. I convinced my boss to downgrade me to extraneous and still couldn’t get WFR’d. Then I finally decide I was done and I quit.

"can save someone else who wants to stay"

Do not do quit or talk to your skip about being put on the list. It will not save anyone else's job. Do not "help" out the process.

Just quiet quit until you find a new job or get the ticket out.

Rather than post on here, be a big brave person and speak to your manager, tell them that you’re open to being put on WFR list. You may actually be helping them out and they can save someone else who wants to stay.

If you're as amazing as you seem to think you are, why don't you leave and go get more money? Shouldn't be difficult for someone as amazing as you, and it the additional money over the years will make your package seem tiny (no pun intended).

Added benefit? Someone that actually wants to work at Dell may not get laid off.

I left on my own two years ago. I had planned to retire in two years but it became unbearable and the right job came along. Had I stuck around I would have been let go in the first wave. Most of my colleagues are now gone. Would have been nice to get compensated for the 23 years of service. Zero regrets about leaving when I did. Now have a job where my skill are used and appreciated daily. I'll work for another three years and collect retirement benefits from this job.

If you really feel that way - do yourself a favor and go find the job you want. You will be better off and a little bit of money from Dell might be nice but i5 won’t change your life.
