Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Still Working at Teradata?

If so, why? It’s a miserable place, revenue is shrinking, competitors are taking your customers, the ELT sits around calculating how many to RIF in order to make their OI target and bonus, and the CEO says the strategy is working. The longer you stay, the worse your resume looks.

I remain so I can get paid to leave when the day finally arrives. I hardly ever go into RB, make it look like I'm busy when in reality I simply don't care any more. A lot of my colleagues are gone and now I have to speak in broken Spanish to convey to the product teams what is needed.

This place used to be fun, but with useless ELT coming on board only interested in lining their pockets with cash and no interest in the customer it's little wonder where we are right now.

Lay-offs will continue and I pray one day it will be me. In the meantime, just pretend to work and getting paid is all I care about

Based on yesterday's earnings call, HA is out. That's long over due. She wasted the past 4 years, delivered little new product that actually worked and had no vision for what we needed. However, like all the other ELT, she pocketed millions in the process.

It isn't easy to find a new job, I have been looking and am continuing to look.

Yes it’s not the regular employees that are to blame. I worked there when it was a solid company. This clueless ELT crew of SM, HA, KCC, JW, and NC before he got fired are not really even Teradata. Sadly they hijacked the show with zero significant internal promotions. TDC is the laughingstock of the industry now. Best of luck escaping to greener pastures.

I am the OP and sorry if I shamed anyone still at Teradata. It is hard to move if you have been there a long time. I feel sorry for what has happened to this once great company and to those still stuck there. Best of luck finding a better job.

I was let go last October after 11 years. What I found was working with proprietary software has little to no value in the job market. I had to rely on my skill set, prior to TD.

Of course I received push back because of the number of years I was away from those specific skills. I was able to convince a company recruiter that my acquired skills over the years still has a place for employment.

I had to press hard for this particular job. Originally I applied for the job twice within a month and was rejected both times. About a week later the company recruiter did reached out to me and scheduled a meeting with the hiring manager.
Best of luck in your job search.

Hang around waiting for payout rather than leave and try to find a role in a market flooded with people with fresher skills. Thats the reality. Those who have spent a long time imprisoned in Teradata have skills that don't qualify them for many roles in the market now. Just like the tech, employees have become legacy with Teradata skills. It's just not a skill that potential employers look for anymore

@OP I agree, the place is a sh*t show and SM has lost all credibility and is franky, an embarrassment. BUT, many of us have been trying to find new jobs for months! I don't have a choice but to stay until something finally comes through. That is the financial reality.
So stop heaping on the shame to the folks who are just trying to make it out alive.

Having spoiled more than 15 years with TDC, do I you have a future in the Tech market ?

While all this may be true, the tech job market is brutal right now. I wouldn't advise leaving unless you have a signed offer on another job in hand.
